Investing In Play-To-Earn Games

What could be more important than playing games? Sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll? Football? Family? Fiesta?

Of course, we have to earn some money from time to time. Fortunately, there are now play-to-earn games. And maybe we can earn much more than the mainstream media imagined.

Art has found its ideal form in computer games. According to IDC data, the global video game market reached $179.7 billion in 2020. The global film industry, on the other hand, reached a turnover of 100 billion dollars in 2019. Source

The share of the players in the gaming industry market was quite low even after e-sport gained importance. That is until play-to-earn games come into play. Nowadays, players paved the way for democratization in the gaming industry by signing the postmodern Magna Carta contract, thanks to blockchain technology. They can now earn money while playing games and own digital assets within the game. Last year, I purchased an alpha pack from Splinterlands. I think I made a payment of like 5-10 dollars. Right now my alpha pack costs around $300.

When we consider the entire crypto industry, Hive does not come to mind about play-to-earn. The top three of this category in terms of financial value are Axie Infinity, The Sandbox, and Decentraland. They have started operating on the Ethereum network. Nowadays, they also operate on networks such as Solana, Polygon, due to Ethereum's high transaction fees. You can find information about 253 play-to-earn tokens listed on Coinmarketcap here. The Coingecko version of the same list is here.

Looking at the Play-to-Earn statistics based on the number of players, a different picture emerges. We see that Hive, which includes Splinterlands with the highest number of players, plays an important role in this category. Other notable networks apart from Ethereum and Hive appear to be Wax, BSC, and Polygon. Here, I would like to draw attention to Wax. As Play-to-Earn gains importance, Wax may shine with Hive. On the other hand, I would like to note that Hive's inflation is incomparably lower than Wax.

According to Dappradar data, Hive's existing games outside of Splinterlands have not yet been able to rank high. On the other hand, it should be taken into account that the success of Splinterlands did not happen all at once. Currently, there are 11 games registered in Dappradar on the Hive network.

There are many games related communities in Hive. Splinterlands, Blockchain Gaming, Gods on Chain, Have Gaming, and 1UP are eye-catching ones. The game tribes that have their website and token are Splinterlands(SPT) and 1UP(1UP). I highly recommend taking a look at https://www.1up.zone/ created by @flauwy. There is some pretty good content about the Play-to-earn category in general.

@ragnarok.game, @psyberx, and @ehon are Hive games that are expected to launch in the coming months. Ragnarok tokens made quite a splash as they would be airdropped to the Hive community. The first images that emerge are quite impressive indeed. Psyberx has also released some visually impressive videos. All three games have the potential to attract new investors to the Hive.

@splinterlands assets are very important in the Play-To-Earn space. I have no investment in the Splinterlands universe beyond owning the Alpha and Beta packs. However, there are many alternatives to invest in, especially land-related assets.

Finally, I would like to mention the @oneup-cartel project. This project, which also has a Hive token called Praetoria Cartel on the Hive Engine, may be of interest to those interested in investing in the play-to-earn category. Since investment in this field requires expertise in itself, opportunities such as game revenues and potential NFT value increases can be benefited through Oneup Cartel. Announcement of the project

Like many Hive community members, I am just a beginner in the Play-to-Earn category. In this article, I have shared with you what I know.

Thank you for reading.

Cool, that was a nice read. Blockchain gaming has serious potential. Wax is a bit costly i feel. The amout of staked wax it requires for transactions is going higher and higher. It is a hub of games though. But it would be hard to say which one's better. Evolution in tech is a constant development. The blockchain that will address its shortcomings and remain competitive will definitely grow.
