Terracore Diary – Entry #2

It's been one month since the last update, and things are moving along. The environment as hostile as ever, and my face more weathered by the hour. Work is hard but rewarding, and I keep extracting the $SCRAP, only to reinvest it in better equipment and knowledge. The thought of constant improvement is also one of my few comforts, in addition to the tiny bed I've managed to cram into my humble vessel, the Rusty Berta.

I've done a decent job in hiding her from raiders and thieves, if I may say so myself. Though it feels like I'm not doing her justice by using her for a simple living quarter. She deserves adventure and exploration, but that's a luxury I simply cannot afford these days.

So as I'm waiting for better days, I've been keeping my head down, focusing on my growth and staying safe. Since my last entry, I've focused my efforts on increasing my Defense, as I experienced some pretty bad raids where a bunch of SCRAP was stolen.

As you can see, my investments have been significant, increasing my stats across the board, except Engineering where I'm still hesitant. I've been focusing on upradging my Defenses to keep my stash as safe as can be. But with the increasing costs of everything, I see no other option but to upgrade my Engineering soon to keep up. I'd just like a couple more bumps on my defense before moving further on that.

Not that I haven't been out stealing my fair share of SCRAP from other explorers. Such is the reality out here – You take what you need or you lose it.

One uplifting thing I've come to realize is that despite my lack of adventures, I'm doing quite well compared to many explorers. The latest data show that I'm ranked as #39 among all the explorers currently residing on Terracore. It would appear that my persistence is paying off.

Signing off for now.

It's more balanced than you think. One of the issues of having greater stats is that you have more SCRAP to be stolen. I'm continuously being cleaned out (i.e. robbed) by "smaller" players. In addition – because they are weaker – I cannot rob them back. Only players on a similar level than me is available for me to attack.

wait what O.O. but arent smaller players weaker. how do they rob you successfully wouldnt you destroy them? seems balanced than i thought if that's the case. I'm still trying to understand how the game is "fun" though . this never got to me

When you attack someone, a dice is rolled, comparing your stats to the one you're attacking. Even if you have a low attack stat and the defender has high defend stat, there's a chance to rob a significant precentage of their stash. Most the time I cannot attack these guys back because they have a much lower score than me - they don't even show up in my game interface.

Another important point ypu may have missed, is that once you claim what's in your stash, it's transferred to your hive wallet and cannot be stolen at all.

Part of the fun in my opinion is timing the claiming, i.e. waiting the max possible amount of time before claiming without it being stolen.

Hmm so people rob u. Then you rob others then won't this even out? Which means that robbing is an illusion to add more mechanics to the game but it's almost the same but makes u put extra effort into the game I guess?

Thanks for sharing about the dice roll. That does make it more fair than I thought it was

Sort of I guess. If you check the Battle Log screenshot again, you can see that in the past 100 battles I've won 61.3% and lost 38.7% - you may find some useful info in the doc pages: https://cryptognome.gitbook.io/terracore
