My Origin Story | Splinterlands #430
You know that moment when something just clicks and it was like it was meant to find you? That was me stumbling across splinterlands back in 2020. It was peak Covid-19 lockdown, and I was casually browsing when I came across a post from @costanza about a blockchain card game where you could play and earn crypto. I couldn't believe what I was reading. Earn by playing? With cards that had value?! Mind. Blown. At the time, I had a few years earlier, given up playing Fifa Ultimate Team as I was over giving EA money for something that I would lose every season.
Reading that post didn't just introduce me to a game - it opened the gates to a whole ecosystem. Hive, crypto blogging, NFTs and DeFi. I'd known about crypto since 2017, but splinterlands was the first time I felt I was using crypto, not just investing in it. Suddenly, crypto wasn't just charts and exchanges; it became part of my daily routine. Fast forward to now, and I've written over 400+ splinterlands articles and I have previously reflected on my three-year journey in an earlier post here, and since then, I've kept consistently producing weekly (mostly) splinterlands content going.
The First Card I Fell in Love With
Let me tell you about Lord Arianthus, the original no-attack powerhouse tank. The moment I got my hands on a Level three for my main account (and a Level two for my alt), I knew I'd found the monster that would server as the backbone for my collection. Lord Arianthus has has carried me through so many battles over the years. I even wrote a lore post expanding on his backstory because I was shocked there wasn't more about him.
The Strategy Shift
When I started out, I had a small deck and over time, I've reinvested all crypto blogging earnings to consistently grow my collection across my main and alt accounts. I even went big and ran a 1k Chaos Legion pack opening challenge, which required a substantial capital investment (well at least for me), which in hindsight was a very poor financial decision, but it was good to be consistent and follow through on such a challenge. That challenge led to a new account built almost entirely from Chaos Legion cards and taught me a ton about card value, metas, and patience. I also started using Xbot to handle my ranked matches, freeing me up to focus on brawls, content creation, and community stuff. My strategy now is pretty simple: consistency. Show up, do my guild brawls, continuously stake SPS, stay up to date about the latest ongoings in the splinterlands ecosystem and put out quality content.
Where I'm Headed
I've always had goals in splinterlands. Early on, it was learning the ins and outs of the game. Then it was trying to get into the Champion I league (spoiler: I never did). I also chased a Runi NFT for months and wrote about it, saved every bit of crypto I earned, but eventually had to walk away. Runi prices were just out of reach, and I chose to invest that money elsewhere. I still think about it.
Right now, my biggest goal is getting to 100k SPS staked. I'm almost at 93k. So close I can taste it. Longer term? I'd love to own a complete Rebellion set. Not through packs this time, but by slowly collecting on the secondary market. That's the plan anyway. And of course, I'll keep writing. Maybe I don't have the reach of the bigger content creators, but I'm still here, waving the splinterlands flag in my little corner of the internet.
Concluding Thoughts
Splinterlands is not just a game for me anymore. It's a habit, and a creative outlet. It introduced me to Hive, LeoFinance, and some of the most passionate gamers and builders I've ever met. Even during the bear market when card prices and SPS tanked -- I stayed. Not because everything was perfect, but because I believed in the foundation being built. And now? I feel like the game is turning a corner again. I wrote about the positive sentiment that is starting build around the new Conclave Arcane set coming out later this year in splinterlands.
