Sketchbook C21: Witch of Warwick [SPT Week 359]
Hello, Dear creative community!♥️
I dedicated this new page in my little art book to another creation inspired by another Splinterlands character. While looking for inspiration in the card list, this time i tried not to search through all the categories and elements, because then i don't know which one to choose since i like so many. When i saw this little witch, i found her peculiar, and as i've mentioned in my previous posts, i love creatures with unusual skin colors, so i quickly selected The Witch of Warwick to begin this new chapter of my Sketchbook.
Sketching Time
I always stare at the page before making any strokes, waiting for my mind to magically start drawing shapes before my hand does, and finally, at some point in my creative meditation, i begin to sketch my creatures. I admit that this time it was more relaxing, since drawing fan art isn't usually very spontaneous for me, but what i like about this challenge is that it's not necessary to create something exactly like the character, but rather inspired by them, so it's open and free. In the previous challenge, i remember making a female version of a monster with a male body, and this time, without planning it, the opposite happened: it turned out to be a little wizard instead of a witch 😅. I like it when i let myself be carried away by the impulsive strokes of my mind.
Inking / Outlining
This time, i went straight to outlining my main figure with my drawing pens. I decided not only to draw the main lines but also to add all the details so that i would have a better basis for coloring it later with my alcohol markers. I admit that this step is tempting because i love this technique and always think about leaving it at that, but in this case, that wasn't the idea, so i had to continue with the next step.
Choosing Colors
At this point, i always tend to panic, as these are colors i don't normally use in this way, and lately i've been practicing not using too many strong colors at once... But since this case is an exception, i tried to use similar colors but more dramatic ones. One of my favorite features of this character is their greenish skin. In this case, i had to choose a different shade of green, because if i looked for a similar one, the skin would become too dark.
Solid Bases with Alcohol Markers
For the base of my drawing, i used alcohol markers, so i had to choose other shades so that the character wouldn't look so dark, although while i was painting the base with these contrasting colors, i was a little worried. Since i wanted to add other textures and effects, i had to create this dense base so that i could paint over it with lighter colored pencils; otherwise, they wouldn't stand out from the background.
Details Time
Once my marker base was ready, i added details with pastel pencils on the skin and that aura-like effect surrounding the glass and the hand, using light green and blue tones. For the clothes, i used magenta and violet tones. For the final details, i used blue and turquoise acrylic markers.
The End
And that's how my Warwick wizard turned out, with a rather crazy face and disturbing eyes. For a moment, he looked like a crazy, strange version of Loki to me. Although i thought it would be a bit dark, it ended up being a drawing with very bright colors, so i exaggerated that neon effect a little more, and with this new page number 21, now i have another style in my little art book.
