Splinterlands Art Contest: Week 227 - Ever-Hungry Skull
Hi all, greetings!
It's been a while I take part in this contest but this week, I made up my mind I will join. So today, I bring you another entry to the @Splinterlands contest week 227 and I chose "EVER-HUNGRY SKULL" my character and source of inspiration.
I particularly didn't find it much challenging as I am used to drawing skulls but the kind of background and concept of the skull to give was the challenge.
I have seen a couple of skulls done by other artists but I needed to come up with my own concept so I thought of a skull with chains surrounding it or a skull placed on top of a chain. I opted for the first one.
Then another thought came up - a skull surrounded by a chain with fire burning within it. It is as though the chains produced the fire and the fire is a resting place for the skull. It doesn’t get burt.
From my reference, I noticed the skull has a vampire's teeth and a broken head. I liked them cause I'm a big fan of vampire and zombie so I chose to add them too to mine.
At a later stage, I decided to add another fire on the head of the skull. It gave it a new look.
The work was done with AutoDesk sketchbook application and aided with an S-pen. My detailed step by step processes are below:
The first step was to find a position of my skull and where the chains will be placed. Don't bother about those squiggles, lots of errors and adjustments occurred there.
The next step was to add shades. I first used squiggles to work on it before laying a darker tone with blurring to it. I also added the broken part.
Now at this stage, I introduced a color. I used dark blue here. Defining my shades and Shaws.
At this stage, sky blue color was introduced. This gave it a more subtle look.
At this stage, I introduced a background.
Thereafter, I added the burning fire.
Finally, I added the fire on the head and made some finishing touches.
Finished piece
I don't know how you feel but I felt excited getting to see how the final result turned out.
Thank you.
Exlent work buddy
Thank you friend. I am glad you like it.
Welcome my dear friend
cool work,Horrible hungry skull.
Thank you!✌
Very cool looking skull, well done!
Thanks buddy. I am glad you like this one😊
This is very nice! I seldom see you do the backgrounds in your sketches and this one was done so nicely! Goodluck!
Thank you. White or black plain background are always my favorite. I do want the focus to be on the work rather than the background. However, there are times, backgrounds could help add more life to a work.
Cheers...
