I didn’t think I’d be that interested in Campaign Mode at first but after actually checking out Book 1: Waur Medge Academy I’ve got to admit, it’s kinda clean. Instead of just slamming you into ranked play, this tutorial walks you through stuff and gives you real cards that you can use at the same time.

If you're new and want to learn the game before diving into ranked or a veteran just wanting some new cards, Campaign mode is for you. You earn cards and glints while being structured in a way that doesn't feel like a chore. I'd say that this is way more effective as a tutorial than the previous attempt which is simply adding hints on a text box as you play Ranked Game.

🎯 Foundation Cards Are the New Starter Cards

The big deal here is the Foundation cards. These replace the Rebellion starter set. They’re soulbound so no flipping or trading them (for now) but honestly for someone starting out they’re a really good starter card.

You get them just by playing through Campaign Mode and the full set gives you all the elements you need, except for Dragon. They have both Archons and Units so you can quickly jump to a ranked game without renting anything.

There are a few catches with these though. While they don't give you penalties for using them unlike Rebellion Starter cards, these new cards are quite weak right now. They are only level 1 and only a handful of them are really useful in practice.

✨ The Use of Glint

As you move through the chapters you start earning Glint. You can use it to buy things in the in-game shop like Energy, special items or packs. This means, while the Campaign mode rewards you with cards you can play, you can even get more cards by using the in-game Glint Store to get more cards that you can use with your battles.

Playing Campaign mode rewards time invested and not just money spent from buying the Spellbook. You’re not earning crazy amounts early on but it adds up and that matters especially if you’re trying to build without losing a ton of SPS or DEC in the beginning.

🎴 How to Start Campaign Mode

There are many ways to reach the Campaign mode but this would be the most direct and easiest one.

Hover on the Play tab and click Campaign.

For now, you can only play the first book but other books will also be unlocked in the future giving you more rewards. So, click on that first one to start.

At first, the 2nd to 11th chapter will be locked for you. I played all the chapters so you can see that it's finished for me. Click on the 1st chapter and let's start.

This would start the Campaign mode and story. Some chapters would also include a mock battle that you can use to follow.

Completing the instructions will result in rewards, cards and glints.

🚫 What You Can’t Do With Foundation Cards

Alright here’s the limitation stuff you should know. These Foundation cards don’t count toward collection power so don’t expect them to make your account look fancy. If in the future, Splinterlands will adapt a collection power requirement towards the next Division like they did before, these new Foundation cards won't count towards them. They also don’t produce value on land if you’re into that part of the game.

As these new cards are soulbounded, you also can’t delegate them, trade them, sell them or burn them. It’s basically yours forever that you can only use by yourself. In the future, according to the Splinterlands post, there's a possibility of these Foundation cards to be sellable. This is just my assumption but they will probably do an unlocking event like what they did in previous soulbound rewards allowing you to transfer the ownership of these cards.

Even though there are limitations, it's still a whole set of free cards. Just look at these cards:

🔓 Phase 2 Could Change Everything

This part's not live yet but it’s in the notes and worth getting excited for. As I've mentioned, Foundation cards will eventually become tradeable and sellable. That’s a big deal. Just like with soulbound rewards, I thought that they won't be useful or marketable but I was wrong. In the future, I expect these cards would be useful in other strategies as well.

There might also be a Foundation booster packs too in the future but no details yet. If they actually let us combine and level up the cards later, then yeah, the time spent on Campaign Mode now could be future value in your deck or wallet.

📚 Campaign as a Soft Launch for the Future

Campaign Mode isn’t just a tutorial, I expect that it’s a teaser for the bigger things coming to Splinterlands. There were talks in the discord about adding comics and other forms of art for the lores and this might be the entry for it. As new books and chapters are added, the system could also adapt this to give other rewards, maybe a battle pass with non-soulbound cards and packs? Who knows what they are planning in the future? For now, I think Campaign mode is nothing but a stepping stone for new things to come.
