In Splinterlands some units are made to hit hard and others are made to take hits for the team. Helheim Demon clearly falls into the latter category with a focus on tanking damage while applying constant pressure to the enemy lineup through dodging or countering back. It’s one of those units that can quietly win you the match by keeping the rest of your team safe.

I'm not sure if we talked about him before but that just means Helheim Demon demands that much of the spotlight. This article will go over why Helheim Demon can be such a frustrating card to deal with for your opponent. We’ll take a look at how its strengths work with Conclave Arcana, in different rule sets and the situations where it struggles. The goal is to see if this is a card worth adding to your core lineup or just a reserve for in case you need more defense for your team.

Let's talk about… Helheim Demon

Lore:

Hailing from an infernal realm that found its end in the belly of the dark god Uul, Helheim demons joined the legions of Chaos under the heel of the archfiend Barashkukor. Now, these manifestations of death and decay serve in the archfiend's legion of demons, where they enjoy nothing better than spreading the cold embrace of mortality.
And with resistance rising in the Splinterlands, they get plenty of opportunity to do what they enjoy.

At $18.85 for a max level Helheim Demon, this feels like a good value for a card that offers both strong attack and defense. The price is not overly expensive considering it's a culmination of 115 cards combined into one. Helheim Demon can fit into many defensive and unique strategies. For players looking for a taunt tank with more use than one. It’s definitely worth picking up.

At 27 DEC per day for a max level copy the rental price is very reasonable for what it offers. Given that Taunt tanks are reall strong this Conclave Arcana generation, this makes it affordable to rent only when a match really calls for it. Competitive players will find this a cost-effective pick for a lot of different situations and strategies.

Use it in...

Non-flying Units take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round. Flying lets it completely avoid the earthquake damage. This gives you an insane advantage since Helheim Demon will not take damage from Earthquake unlike others.

All units have Blast (deals an additional 50% damage to units adjacent to the target, rounded up). Blast damage is very dangerous if you don't know where it would land. A couple of Sneak, Opportunity or Snipe attacks and it might affect your low health units. Taunt allows you to control the unexpected practically disabling these abilities. If you know which unit Blast will affect, you know where your units with Deflect will be best positioned.

All Units have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat. Extra armor boosts Helheim Demon's survivability even further. Another advantage is that since Helheim Demon has magic attacks, his attacks bypasses any armor directly attacking heir health.

Avoid using it in...

All units have Magic Reflect (returns 50% of magic damage to attacker, rounded up). Helheim Demon has high magic attack especially on higher levels. With Magic Reflect, he would take heavy damage from its own magic attacks.

All healing abilities are removed from Units and Summoners. Even though Helheim Demon is not directly affected of this rule set, this still removes the heals for him like Triage or Corrupted Healing when Helheim Demon is tanking from the back.

Units with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks. High speed makes Helheim Demon attack later and potentially get hit more. The high speed becomes a liability and makes him weaker overall.

Battle Strat: Since this is a low mana battle, the cheapest play would be using Weapons Training since Daigendark Surveyor costs only 2 mana. With a Halfling Refugee (1 mana), Daarg Deadblast with Weapons Training (7 mana) and a Weapons Training target Daigendark Surveyor (2 Mana). All of that with Zeddica at 3 mana, I have all the advantages I need for this battle.

Battle Summary: Since Halfling Refugee can outheal Songale's attacks and Daarg Deadblast can heal most of Gonach Excavator's Sneak attack to Daigendark Surveyor, I have the advantage on both sides.
