I’ve seen Abyssal Elemental around but I never really gave it much thought until I had to look for a magic attacker with a bit oomph. Unlike last generation where I can rent max leveled Chaos Legion units and archons, I've been playing Conclave Arcana's generation a bit different. I can only rent low to mid leveled archons which means the same for the units and these are due to the rise in prices. This made my options a lot limited, especially the damage.

Once I gave it a test run I realized that Abyssal Elemental fits better than I expected especially in those longer matches where every extra round matters. It’s not overpowered or flashy but it has just the right mix of durability and damage to earn a spot in my usual team. Abyssal Elemental is definitely one of those cards that surprises you once it gets going.

If the buy price stays under $20 for a max leveled copy this unit feels decently priced based on my opinion. With Blast and Resurgence together you’re getting a unit that can stay in the fight longer and apply AoE attacks consistently. It’s not exactly cheap but it does bring solid value in your team especially if you're fond of using Water Element.

If you can rent Abyssal Elemental for 30–50 DEC per day it’s a good deal especially if you’re running magic teams often but that's not realistic with its price of 108.907 DEC per day. In my opinion, you don't need a max level Abyssal Elemental. A level 1 for 3.00 DEC per day should do the work. I only use him for his magic attack and Resurgence. Those two factors can be achieved by a level 1 Abyssal Elemental and that's really all you need. The rest are just a bonus.

Rule Sets:

Use it in...

All units have Rebirth (self-resurrects once per battle with 1 health and 100% of armor; all magic debuffs are removed, and all magic buffs are reapplied; skips turn). Doubles down on survivability as Resurgence adds to the existing Rebirth allowing it to be revived twice per battle.

The initial Health of all Units is equal to that of the Units on either team with the highest base Health. This unit starts at 6 health and gets even tankier under Equalizer rule set making it last longer and hit more. Resurgence also works based on this unit's health. This means if the Equalizer rule set gives everyone 14 health, when Abyssal Elemental dies, he gets revived with 14 health, which is a huge advantage.

All Units have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat. Similar idea to Equalizer but for armor. Resurgence gives Abyssal Elemental max armor on that battle when revived. In addition to that, magic attacks passes through armor allowing her attacks to not be blocked by the armor gained from Armored Up rule set.

Avoid using it in...

Units do not have any armor and do not get armor from Abilities or Summoner Buffs. Contrary to Armored Up rule set, Abyssal Elemental's Resurgence loses the ability to restore its armor upon revival making that ability less powerful.

All units have Enrage (+50% melee power and speed if not at full health, rounded up). This rule set gives every unit Enrage ability that increases the unit's melee attack and speed by half its original attack. While the speed benefits Abyssal Elemental, the increased damage doesn't. What's worse is that Resurgence inflicts 1 damage to all units and this damage passes through armor. This means if you enemies uses a lot of melee units with Sneak or Opportunity during that battle, expect a huge increase in their firepower once Abyssal Elemental's Resurgence activates.

Units lose all abilities. While Abyssal Elemental's lack of abilities still makes him powerful, the removal of Resurgence still hurts his survivability.

Battle Strat: In this battle, I focused more on maximizing Weak Magic rule set. Since armor can block magic attacks, it's now a good time to whip out units with armor like Commander Slade and Abyssal Elemental. I added Shadowfey Sheik just because I like its Life Leech.

Battle Summary: My enemy's use of Opportunity attacks was a miscalculation but it worked on my favor. Since Shadowfey Sheik gains health every time it hits health, and Commander Slade has high health being my tank, eventually, the target of Opportunity attacks will go towards Abyssal Elemental. While this looked bad, this also meant Resurgence will trigger doing 1 damage to all units (both my enemies and my own). Since my enemies have generally lower health than me, this is a good thing which helped me in this battle.
