Survival Mode Secrets: General Tips to Keep Your Team Alive

How’s your Splinterlands journey going? I’ve been diving into Survival Mode lately, and it’s definitely a unique challenge. Have you tried it yet?
In Survival Mode, once a card dies in battle, it’s out of action for a while until a certain time. This means that having multiple copies of cards can be a real advantage and making sure that no one dies is now more crucial than ever. You’ve got to plan your lineup carefully because every unit counts!

🔥 How do you prepare for battles? Do you scout your opponent’s previous teams, or do you focus on an adaptable lineup?
Check the pattern. If enemy has a pattern then you can effectively counter it. If enemy is using a lot of Eternal Tofu, avoid using melee units as this would get you in a lot of trouble.
I would say that if there's no pattern on your enemy, focusing on your own lineup is the best. In Survival Mode, every death is bad since every units that died cannot be used again for a certain amount of time. Taunt with a lot of supports like Tank Heal, Triage, or Repair are best to keep everyone safe but very predictable in Survival Mode.
💎 Are you using owned cards or renting? If renting, what’s your approach to managing your deck efficiently?
If I were to play competitively in Survival Mode, the most efficient set up would be using your own units and renting the summoners. The units are the ones that can die quickly in battles. You can have multiple copies of high level units which makes the death mechanic better.
Renting units is bad in my opinion. To use rented units in Survival Mode, they must be rented per season. This means that if your unit dies and if the cooldown is 15+ days or anything more than the season, then that's it for your season rental.
On the other hand, summoners only die when your whole team dies. This means as long as you don't lose, you won't lose the summoner. This makes it efficient to have summoners rented as they die not as fast than units.
🛠️ Tips and recommendations: What advice would you give to those looking to jump into Survival Mode?
The best tip I could suggest is probably to take advantage of the Surrender button. This might be a surprise but there's a certain rule in Survival Mode that caught my eye.
If you surrender, one unit and one summoner will be considered dead as a punishment and be put on cooldown. If you think you can't win, it would be better to just surrender or use a throw away team (using level 1 summoner and one level 1 unit). This saves your main team for another battle.
Owning or renting a lot of low leveled units and summoners are also a good stratgey. You can use these units as a decoy for when you surrender or intentionally lose.
With the above context, fight only what you can win. If you think your team is not good enough for the current battle, then surrendering is a better choice.
📊 Emerging meta: What trends are developing? Are certain summoners or strategies proving dominant?
Take this with a grain of salt because I don't really play Survival mode. The meta I am seeing and predicting are those revolving with Eternal Tofu. I've used Eternal Tofu and it got me from Gold 3 to Diamond 1. There's a reason why it's also used by members of the top 1 guild in Splinterlands.
Eternal Tofu is strong in keeping your team alive and the Thorns alone eliminates any melee-based team against you. If you use Eternal Tofu and Iziar, those two alone can limit your enemy's team to just range. Tofu takes care of the melees and Iziar takes care of the magic attack due to his Void ability.
I think there are strong combinations out there that I haven't seen especially if you add units from Wild Ranked Format that cannot be used in Modern Ranked Format. If you combine Eternal Tofu, Iziar and some strong units from the previous sets, I think you can make a really strong indestructible team that can take you to higher ranks.
