Free Access to Wild Ranked This Season – Try it Now!

Splinterlands will be offering a season of pass-free Wild for this season. Normally, you have to buy the Wild Battle Pass to play in Wild Ranked Format but you don't have to do it for this season and you can just experience the games and try out cards you've never tried before.
This is a rare chance for both new and veteran players to check out the Wild Ranked Format without any upfront cost. Whether you're nostalgic about the legendary old-school combos or just curious how older cards fare against today's meta, now’s the time to explore. Take this opportunity to expand your knowledge and strategy, test freely, and discover what makes Wild Ranked Format unique and fun.

Modern vs Survival vs Wild
Splinterlands has three game modes, Modern Ranked Format, Survival Ranked Format, and Survival Mode.
In Modern Ranked Format, you can only use the last two generations of cards. When the another generation is introduced, the last one would not be allowed. Right now, you can use Rebellion and the new Conclave Arcana. Once there's a new generation of cards released, Rebellion will be unusable in Modern Ranked Format and it will only be Conclave Arcana and the new generation. This makes Modern Ranked Format exciting but also challenging.
In Survival Mode, you can use any cards from any generation. The catch is any units that "died", will be unusable for a period of time. This is not for the faint of heart. You need an abundance of extra cards to make sure you can play multiple times... or you can just play a perfect game each time and not lose any unit and win?
Lastly, Wild Ranked Format. It's the same as Survival Mode but without the risk of your cards being unusable when it gets eliminated. For a mere $2 Wild pass per season, which is roughly two weeks, you are free to explore combos and synergy between your cards. You're also not in danger of any cards being phased out. If a new generation was added to the game, you can use that along with any of your cards you rented or owned even from the Alpha generation up to the latest one.

Why Wild Ranked Format is Suited for New Players?
Some of the new cards are complicated having 4 or 5 abilities on each card. This may be overwhelming to a new player without much experience with card games. With Wild Ranked Format, you can explore starting from the older generation of cards where their abilities are much simpler but still on the strong side. Abilities like Shield and Void are one of the oldest abilities that I still use in the modern age and still works. Learning these first will allow you to understand the game and not get overwhelmed with the new abilities that works differently such as those that affect Bloodlines.
In Wild Ranked Format, you also don't need to buy or rent every single new card that is released. Old combos like Scarred Llama Mage and Kron the Undying can still win you a lot of games when used in the right circumstances. These things can allow new players to take their time and learn on their own slowly at their own pace instead of trying hard to be competitive in Modern Ranked Format where the meta changes every year.

Since Splinterlands generously removed the Wild Pass fee for this season, it would be a good time for new players to come and join in. I have a few battles as examples in which I'll be using my Modern Ranked Format teams to see how it fare against Wild.
While I'm going to show you my three wins, I actually had six battles in which I won three and lost three.
I am on the left side and yes, red means losses and green means wins.

This one's a given. I'd win due to damage and numbers advantage. This battle is very bad for me still because I lack cards and I got saved because a very good hearted person by the name @davemccoy lent me some cards like the Inept Healer.
It's thanks to him that I won this battle.

Using units with high armor and low health is one of my secrets in Equalizer rule set. If you have high attack units for offense and high armor units for defense, you're set.
Rules that limits your choices like Might Makes Right is a big problem in Modern Ranked Format but not in Wild Ranked Format. Since in Wild Ranked Format, you have the options of using all cards ever created in Splinterlands, finding a unit that has 3 or more attack is not an issue.

In Wild Ranked Format, you can freely use Franz Ruffmane or any summoners that has Conscript ability which allows the use of Brawl/Guild only units called Gladiators. One example of a Gladiator is Captain Katie. These strong Gladiators can be obtained for free by joining guilds and playing Brawls.
I did won in this game but let me tell you. I HATE... yes, capitalized, HATE summoners with Conscript abilities. These are the highest loss rate I have last generation when Chaos Legion are allowed in Modern Ranked Format. Unless you also have the same summoner and Gladiator, your win would be most likely based on luck. That's how strong they really were. You cannot use them in Modern Ranked Format but you can still use them in Wild Ranked Format, which is one of the appeals of this format if you have these strong units.
