LAVA SPIDER

LORE

Few explorers dare to go deep within the volcanoes of the world. Tales are told of great spiders that weave threads of fire and trap their enemies in webs of flame. An inescapable and painful death.
When the Chaos Legion entered the Splinterlands through the great volcano in the center of Praetoria, they saw the lava spiders and used them to their advantage. Transporting these spiders into areas that need defense is a win-win for both groups. For the Chaos Legion, it is an easy barrier to ward off unwanted visitors. And for the lava spiders, they get free meals from the curious, the foolish, and the unwary adventurers that seek to strike at the Chaos Legion..

The Strategy

The Fire Splinter is heavily focused on Melee Monsters, mainly due the Summoner Tarsa giving +1 Melee attack to all your Monsters. But that doesn't mean that you can't use Magic or Ranged Monsters in your team in order to maximize your chances to win matches!

The Lava Spider is a very mana-efficient ranged Monster to use: it only costs 3 Mana and has lots of good stats: the Snipe ability, 2 Speed (better than almost all 2-Mana Ranged Monsters that have only 1 Speed), and FOUR health, making him incredibly tanky in your backline, protecting the rest of your team against Sneak enemy attacks!

)

The Lava Spider becomes INCREDIBLY powerful if you're a more experienced player that has access to the Summoner Yodin Zaku, considered one of the most powerful Summoners on the game. He's a Fire Splinter Summoner that gives +1 Ranged Attack to all your Monsters, making the Spider way stronger than before, doubling its attack; not only that, but the Blast ability also means that he'll end up dealing way more damage than before. Very strong indeed!!!!

But hey, let's forget about the whole Yodin Zaku thing, and focus on the common cards that are available to all players.😝

The main strenght of Lava Spider is playing him as the last Monster of your team: the Spider will be able to deal 1 damage per turn on the enemy backline (bypassing the opponent's tank due the Snipe ability) while tanking any incoming Sneak damage.

Let's see this strategy in action!

YOU KNOW WHAT? LET'S SEE A MATCH WITH YODIN ZAKU!

Of course I don't own Yodin Zaku myself, as it's way above my paygrade. But I've rented it for one day in order to make this post for you folks!

You'll now see the POWER of Yodin Zaku and Lava Spider, together!

This was a fairly common match without any crazy rules. The only special ruleset was "Weak Magic", meaning that Magic Attacks will hit Armour before hitting the Health and that Magic Monsters are weaker than the normal.

That's a very interesting ruleset for Lava Spider and Yodin Zaku: given the fact that Magic Monsters are weaker, this means that other monsters (including Ranged) are stronger than normal.

Let's analyze my team composition:

  • The frontline tank is Living Lava: he's the classic Fire Splinter tank, with high Armour, Health and the Shield ability, halving all incoming Ranged and Melee damage.

  • My 2nd and 4th Monsters were two classic Melee Monsters with abilities that allow them to hit the enemy backline: Serpentine Spy and its Opportunity abilty, and Uraeus and its Sneak ability. The idea is maximize the damage from the Blast given by Yodin.

  • My 3rd Monster is Lava Spider that's greatly buffed by Yodin Zaku: more Ranged Damage, more Health, Snipe and Blast!

The battle was a Success!

This match was a landslide, and my opponent wasn't even able to hit my Monsters A SINGLE TIME!

Yeah, you read it right! My monsters weren't attacked any time during the whole match. Why?

Due the difference on the Speed, my monsters attacked first: after the Lava Spider, Serpentine Spy and Uraeus attacked, the 3rd and 4th Monsters of my enemy died. Thus, on the first round he wasn't able to attack.

On the second round, the Unicorn Mustang initiated the round on the backline and, thus, lost his attack. After all the attacks from my own monsters, he died before the 3rd round.

GGWP

Conclusion

Lava Spider is not a very common card to be played as it's a Ranged Monster in a Melee-Focused Splinter. But it costs very little Mana and has a very specific but strong role: defend your backline (with its high 4 Health) while dealing Ranged Damage to the opponent's backline due its Snipe ability,

If you're playing with Tarsa as your Summoner, it's expected that you'll focus on Melee Monsters. But if you have 3 Mana left and no Monsters to play, the Lava Spider is a very nice card to be played and that will bring you many victories!

In the other hand, if you want to EASILY WIN MATCHES, just rent a Yodin Zaku and combo him with Lava Spider. You'll climb on the ranks in no time.
