Hey there, welcome to the Splinterlands community engagement challenge post, and today's theme is exciting and my favorite. 7 years have passed, and a lot of things have changed. Many players came and went, but some legends are still here. I have taken a long break in this journey and have also sold some assets because of the situation. What I am trying to say is that during these 7 years, the situation was not always the same, and I am also not a player who is still holding all the assets. I want to share all the things honestly. I want to cover all the points here as they are.

What was the biggest hurdle you faced when learning Splinterlands?

It took almost a month for me to learn Splinterlands, and this is a stupid thing, but it is reality, and why did this happen? It was easy for the players who had already played similar games in the past, but for me, it was totally new, and I had 0% knowledge about such games. Yes, I played games, but it was not like Splinterlands because the games I played in childhood were cricket, racing games, Vice City, and Super Mario. Now you can see how different Splinterlands is from these games. In 2018, there was no Splinterlands tutorial available on YouTube, and I also did not have any friends who were already playing Splinterlands and could teach me.

The first big task was understanding the mana, and then the second big task was placing the right card in the right place. Understanding these things seems easy for the people who are already playing Splinterlands, but here I am talking to a man who never played such games before, and he did not know anything about the game features. So at that time, it was the biggest hurdle for me. There came a point when I decided that I would not learn this game anymore.

Which feature or mechanic took the longest to fully understand?

The list is longer because things like learning mana, card placement, and abilities gave me a tough time. Mana is a basic and must-know thing because if you don't know how to set cards according to mana, then the game will not go ahead, and eventually, you will lose the battle. That's the reason leaning mana was the most important basic thing. You should know how to use all the mana in the battle for maximum benefit in the battle.

The second thing that gave me a tough time was card placement. I was so stupid that I put the ranged attack monsters at first, and this mistake made me lose a lot of battles, but the good thing was that it didn't take much to learn, and within 2 days, I learned to put the ranged attack card in the last position. What I followed was putting melee attack monsters at first, magic attack monsters in the middle, and ranged attack monsters last, and after learning this, I started winning the battles. Right now, the situation is different, and in this strategy, there are lots of new things come.

The third feature was the ability of the cards. In the beginning, I was using the reach ability monster at first or last, but this ability monster can work better if you put it in the second position, and in fact, it is made for the second position. So I made such mistakes, but later I observed every single card's ability one by one, and this particular thing helped me a lot to win most of the battles.

After learning all these things, I upgraded my cards and also bought some important cards, and that was my first card buying.

What advice would you give to your past self—or a brand-new player—starting today?

Yes, I want to give advice to myself that book profit on time so that you can rebuy the assets at a cheaper price. I made the biggest mistake that I did not selling my assets at a higher price, and now I regret it. Not only splinterlands but everywhere in the crypto field, give first priority to booking the profit at the right price and it is up to you to decide which is the right price to book profit. Can you believe that once the SPS price was traded at $1, and now you can see the price is $0.007? There's a difference between sky and ground.

For the brand new players, they should focus on learning and observing things to master in battle. And the most important thing is building in the game. Focus on reinvestment, which means whatever you earn, reinvest it and grow your stake and deck strength. If you're thinking of cashing out here at $0.007, then this is a foolish decision. Remember, SPS is a governance token, and it has great use cases. It has the potential to grow; that's the reason a growing stake is recommended. However, this is not financial advice.

Are there any specific players, guides, or moments that helped you grow the most?

When I started, there was no one in the game I knew. Also, at the beginning of the post, I shared that when I started playing the game, guides and tutorials were not available that could teach me because the game was new, and the hype was not up to the mark. So I want to share one thing that I learned this game by experience. See, observe, and apply, that's the simple formula. When you're playing battle, observe the opponent's team. That's how you can learn the game fast.
