Hello axie pips!

It's been a while since we updated our log. Apologies! I've been quite busy these days. Christmas season is slowly approaching so we need to grind here and there. I mean it's a pretty big occasion here in the Philippines and because yours truly has almost two dozens of godchildren we really need to up our game. They say it's not about the gifts or the money but hey when I was a child and my godparents failed to meet my expectations I was quite disappointed. We've been there we don't want them to experience such heartbreak this season. Anyway, we have some big pump on hive so this might help. Ready for $5/hive before the year ends? I also hope so!

About a week ago, we shared we actually had some trouble climbing past the 1600 MMR. There's too many strong teams in the lower brackets nowadays. Poor us who only have an average is still trying it's best against these monster teams. I'm really annoyed by that pliers-double talk. The damage output was ridiculous! Thankfully even with strong computation we managed to paved our way to 1700 MMR today. The highest we reached was 1750 until we fell back to our current MMR which is at 1711.

So, we have two battles to share with you guys todays. I know we already feature catapult a 1-2 times in our previous logs but let's see how it goes this season. If you do not know, Catapult a.k.a. Tiny Spoon got some decent buff in it's defensive capabilities. With +10 shield it just became a nemesis, something long range reliant would surely have trouble facing with. Actually, when you got 2 X and successfully defended against a backdoor bird the typical bird (ds+pp+eb+pf) by reflect. It's fun for us but I'm sure it's very annoying to out opponents. Without further ado let's start this!

Furball Madness? No Problem.

The first game we're up against a backdoor poison team. It's not your typical uber premium 48-50 speed dusks. This one is composed of a slower aqua and a reptile. The aqua actually have two bd cards which are Smart short and Perch. I think this is not much of an issue because unlike other backdoor cards Perch actually have pretty decent stats with 100 or so points in offense if I'm not mistaken.

We passed in round 1 because our draw was really terrible. The opponent made a full swing attack directed to our reptile which left it stunned, poisoned and halved it's hp. The weakness of our opponent in my opinion is not the mid and the back. They might not be perfect backdoors but they are arguably playable. The big issue here was their plant which only has Vegetal Bite for energy gain. Babylonia is quite useless for the front unless you're up against something like a bug tank which is quite unlikely.

Alhough Perch has some pretty good stats for a backdoor card it's actually the easiest bd card to counter. This is why it's important to at least have one zero cost energy on your mid and back. Perch targets an idle so to direct to the front just play cards on all 3 of your axies or you could juss pass. And this is what we did in round 4. Also, since Smart shot and Watermelon would likely target our low health next round we played 2x Acro to outspeed the aqua and redirect the backdoor next round to our backline. And we were right! All attacks from their reptile were redirected. Now the next attack from their was not enough to kill our mid. Worse for them we managed to took it down using a 4-card combo. It's now a 3 v 1 and it's not looking very good for them.

In our offensive in round 7 we managed to bring their health down to only 200+. They used backdoor and made a full blown move to our mid. Unlucky for them we used 2x Catapult which reflected 3 out of their 4 cards. They did managed to take down the mid but that also meant that their last axie went down with it. In the end, it died by reflect!

Backdoor Backfire, No Way Pliers!

Next game is against a pretty solid team. Backdoor bird with Hare Dagger is something you'd also see in the higher tiers. Why the f**k is it here? Also their mid is a tank demolisher equipped with a deadly combo of Pliers and Soothing Song. We tossed our coin, let it be... Let's just play without much expectation. (We thought we'd likely lose).

We're you're up against a high damage team like this play as much plant cards as you can in the early rounds. Of course, I'm not saying to play a single Serious as you should definitely pass in that case. What I meant is maximize the utility of your front early, especially if you have available energy gain on you mid or back. In this case the probability of having a backdoor in rounds 1 and 2 are quite rare. It often happened at round 3 and the following rounds so we should took that into consideration. Of course, it's a different story if they were really lucky with their draw.

Notice that in round 3, we started using a bit of defense in our mid which was likely the target for backdoors. We didn't go full defense because we're still unsure when it will come. The only goal this time is to successfully defend from bd and surviving the midline. Oh, I also didn't mention that their tank is also strong. Although it doesn't have Serious it got Leaf Bug which complements the other 3 cards. Zigzag and Hotbutt are very good for stalling and outplaying the opponent. Even without Bidens I wouldn't want to battle this plant in a 1 v1 late game.

The awaited backdoor came in round 4. Our mid was barraged by 6 cards, 5 of them were high damage. Thankfully none of them crit. We were successful in defending with just a Bone Sail and a catapult. Also, We got their tank eliminated and managed to chunk down a good amount of health from the bird.

They tried following up another bd in round 5 but since we played an Acro the damage from the bird was again redirected to our backline. In the end because they chose Pliers over Black Mail the damage was redirected to the bird killing it. They tried to take down the plant in round 7 but still failed. It was left with 9 hp. We attacked with 2X Kotaro and a Tiny Dino. It gained us an additional 2 energy and did massive damage to them leaving their hp to a measly 108. In the end they surrendered. The got no energy left and it's impossible with their cards and health.

And that is all for today.
Anyway here's the MMR screenshot coz I forgot to add to thumbnail for viewing purposes.

Yeah, the season is a struggle that's for sure.

Had a good start though, but geez, it's a bit annoying to lose 10 games in a row, but fuck it I'll keep grinding.
