My Actifit Report Card: September 22 2025

As I walked, I was greeted by the sight of lush green fields dotted with grazing sheep. The landscape was vibrant with wildflowers—poppies and buttercups swaying gently in the breeze. The views from the crest of the hills were simply breathtaking, offering a glimpse of the distant coastline and the glimmering sea beyond.
Along the way, I stopped at the iconic Long Man of Wilmington, a chalk figure carved into the hillside that dates back to the Iron Age. The mystery surrounding its origins is fascinating, and I love pondering what it meant to those who created it. Nearby, I also visited the beautiful St. Mary’s Church in East Dean, where I marveled at the Norman architecture and tranquil graveyard.
I had the pleasure of meeting a few fellow walkers—one was an elderly gentleman named Mr. Thompson who shared stories of his childhood in the area. He spoke of local legends and the changes he’s witnessed in the landscape over the decades. We chatted about the importance of preserving such historic sites and the joy of walking through a landscape rich with history.
As I continued on, I encountered a small group of schoolchildren on a nature outing. They were collecting leaves and learning about the different trees, and their enthusiasm was infectious. It reminded me of my own school trips, where I first fell in love with history and nature.
Overall, it was a delightful walk filled with history, stunning views, and wonderful company. Each step along the South Downs Way felt like a journey through time, revealing the stories etched into the very land beneath my feet. I can't wait for my next adventure!
