My Actifit Report Card: September 04 2025

I started my walk in the village of Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the "Venice of the Cotswolds" due to its beautiful low bridges and the River Windrush flowing through the centre. The quaint stone cottages lined the riverbank, and I took a moment to appreciate the iconic double-arched bridge that has become a symbol of the village.
As I continued my walk along the paths that meander through the fields, I encountered delightful sights, including sheep dotting the landscape and the occasional glimpse of a farmer tending to their flock. The old-style dry stone walls also caught my attention, a testament to the region’s agricultural heritage.
Along the way, I met a couple who were also enjoying the walk. They were from London and had come for a weekend getaway to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. We exchanged stories about our travels; they were particularly interested in the history of the Cotswolds, and I shared some facts about the wool trade that thrived here during the Middle Ages, which is why you'll find such beautifully preserved medieval buildings.
Not far from there, I stumbled across the ancient village of Lower Slaughter, which is often regarded as one of the most beautiful in Britain. The small mill by the river was a lovely photo opportunity, and I learned that the village name derives from the Old English word “slough,” meaning muddy place.
As I wrapped up my walk, I felt a deep appreciation for the beauty and history of the Cotswolds. The experience fueled my passion for exploring England’s rich tapestry of stories, and I couldn't wait for my next adventure!
