Piggies Jumping on the NFT Bandwagon
First and foremost, I've been out of the blockchain loop for a while and have been doing a lot of catching up lately. I'm happy to see NFTs becoming mainstream, because in 2017 not many people knew about them. Cryptokitties came out in 2017 while I was working in crypto marketing, and I was immediately sold. I bought a couple, and gifted them to family members for Christmas that year.
I discovered OpenSea about a week ago, and decided to create a collection of NFTs inspired by our books. So far, I have one collection: Patterns + Places. I've been promoting them on Twitter and Discord, but it appears to be an oversaturated topic on these channels.

I've been listening to some Gary Vee YouTube videos and he says something along the lines of, "if you create an NFT and post it to Twitter, that's not enough. It's basically the equivalent to waking up in the morning." I still have a lot of improvements in building up the collection and promoting it. Feel free to post advice in the comments. This is pretty new for me. I can't say I'm banking on my collection being a huge hit, but I figure it's smart to get in the NFT game sooner rather than later. I don't think NFTs are a fad, it's just a matter of time before literally everything is on the blockchain.
There seems to be some animosity toward NFTs, especially on Twitter, and I assume that's because of the energy usage? OpenSea users have two blockchain options when minting an NFT: Ethereum or Polygon. I use the Polygon blockchain for my NFTs for two reasons:
- Low gas fees
- Eco-friendly
Here's an article about Polygon being more energy-efficient:

I'm curious to hear the Hive community's thoughts on NFTs. What are your thoughts?
I like NFTs personally, but I don’t care for Metamask/ETH/Polygon/Avalanche/OpenSea for my NFT experience. Solana is super fast, essentially no gas fees, and just an easier overall process, very user friendly. Phantom wallet is simple to use and setup. I like Magic Eden as a marketplace as well, but it’s on Solana. There is Solsea, alpha art, Solanart, digital eyes, solport, but ME has largest audience and verified listings. Solsea has fakes listed. As far as holdings, I like ETH BTC SOL ATOM SCRT MATIC etc but I suppose that’s a tangential convo. Good luck to you! If you ever list on SOL, I would be happy to make a purchase 🙂
I still need to look into Solana, I just came across this article, pretty impressive. Might need to switch : ) I'm not having a good outcome on OpenSea, but I think it's also because my collection is too small.
It seems like growing your audience too. Twitter and Discord are huge for NFTs. I did a 1/1 auction on holaplex, which let’s artists mint their own and have a storefront. One of my friends on here showed me how to do it last month. Holaplex is good support for independent artists and sometimes you can get featured as well. If you’re on Twitter, reach out and I can do what I can to help get you going in that direction. I have the same user name, @obiwanpicone. Holaplex also does Twitter Spaces sometimes to talk about this sort of thing as well, for artists that want to create their own smaller NFT or 1/1 NFT connections. I’m going to start doing more of my own as well. I do acrylic painting, so scanning the image that I painted and turning into an NFT is how I did my first auction
But yeah, from a user perspective, Solana is by far the easiest. And if you’re talking about bringing in ppl who have no background in tech, and they just want a cute pic of a brand they like, I think Solana has what the average person would want. I read the inflationary aspect and the VC insider stuff, but bottom line is the user experience. Ppl like ease and convenience and Solana really provides that. It’s fast, easy to learn, transactions are instantaneous, and essentially no gas.
https://twitter.com/envirogallery/status/1480589181969653763?s=21 I saw this the other day and really made me want to get this NFT to display my other NFTs in 😂 they’ve got some interesting stuff
So it's like a virtual room that you put your NFTs in?
Yes and decorate. It’s sort of like an art gallery. In the higher, more expensive tiers, you can show movies. The future selling points are renting them out to businesses or other artists who may want to display their work using your room as a storefront. The ones I bought two days ago already tripled. It seems like there’s is a big demand for these rn, even though the actual initial use case for them won’t be accessible until Q2. I bought the lowest tier, which you can upgrade into higher tiers by merging two along with some tokens that get airdropped to holders. I’m also hoping to mint some sports ones tomorrow called The Suites. Lower tier can host 8-10 people and stream events, and the higher tiers can get up to 64 ppl, if I recall correctly.
That's really cool, people are coming up with all kinds of great ideas for NFTs.
And looks like she’s actually doing a Twitter spaces on how to get into NFTs tonight 630 PM EST https://twitter.com/nicolllf/status/1481697438218002433
Oh darn, I missed that 🙁
She’ll do more I’m sure. If you’re on Twitter, add me and I can point you in her direction.

I just started it, so we don't have much going on there.
Yesterday, I signed up for a Solsea account. I've decided to make the switch. My toddler is sick so I have no idea when I'll be able to mint a whole collection. But, I'm seeing all kinds of good news about Solana and I think I'll be glad I switched.
Welcome! I added you and commented a couple names to follow
