Splinterlands is the most famous and well-known Hive-based game, and for more than six years it organizes three recurring weekly contests in which many Hivers participate.

Splinterlands contests provide an important incentive for Splinterlands players to:
- learn about the social side of Hive
- post content on Hive
- interact with other Hive users
- promote Splinterlands and Hive on web 2.0 platforms.
The Splinterlands contests also provide an important opportunity for Splinterlands players to increase their Hive Power (HP) through support from steemmonsters, sps.dao and yabapmatt accounts that are accounts that have a lot of HP!

Eleven days ago Splinterlands introduced new rules for participation in its contests.
Splinterlands has chosen to support those with long-term goals on Hive but how to identify or quantify this long-term commitment?
Hive Supporters and KE Indicator
Hive is a Delegate Proof of Stake (DPOS) blockchain and the stake is an important element.
On Hive, the stake is represented by the Hive Power = HP.
The propensity to staking = increasing one's Hive Power is an objective indicator of an account's interest in Hive because it is the Hive Power that measures an account's influence on Hive.
There is an indicator that quickly measures how much a user cares about his Hive Power: the KE = Krampus Co-efficient
What is KE?
The KE is an indicator that correlates three elements (Author Rewards, Curation Rewards, and HP Held).
KE = (Author Rewards + Curator Rewards) / Held HP
This indicator was created and thought up by @azircon and you can read all the details about KE in these posts:

A KE < 1 indicates a hiver who has more HP in his wallet than he has earned through publishing and curation activities = a high propensity for staking HIVE tokens
KE is good indicator but everyone is free to assign it a weight and value according to their own personal criteria.
Regarding Splinterlands contests a KE > 3 without the presence of Splinterlands assets and without an interaction with other Hive authors may be perceived as an interest in extracting more than in supporting Hive, Splinterlands and the community!
If you want to grow on Hive and if you have a High KE it's never too late to change and I recommend that you give more weight to your HP also because many curating and support projects reward users with low KE because they show commitment and trust in the platform.
How to calculate KE
You can calculate your KE manually using data provided by some useful tools.

To use this tool you need to enter your Hive account name and press ENTER on your keyboard

The tool also displays a Report related to Splinterlands assets
How to improve your KE
If you have a High KE and want to improve it(= lower it) you can:
- buy HIVE and do Hive Power Up (HIVE -> HP).
- if you have HIVE liquids you can staking them (HIVE Power Up).
- if you have HBD you can convert them to HIVE->HP
- you can set the rewards of your posts to 100% HP.
Even an account that has a KE > 10 is always in time to change behavior and improve its KE.
Simply choosing to use all author and curator rewards to increase HP has positive and immediate effects on KE.
For example, if a hiver has:
- Author (HP) = 10000
- Curation (HP) = 100
- HP = 1000
If he gains +1000 Author HP and uses it to increase his HP = +1000 HP he can go from a KE = 10.1 to a KE = 5.55
Final Considerations
I personally consider the new rules introduced in Splinterlands contests to be fair and useful for the future of the Hive ecosystem for two reasons:
- Splinterlands is Powered by Hive and it has recently received support from the Hive community who approved and supported its DHF Proposal
- the new rules ensure that Splinterlands support goes to those who support the growth of Hive and not to those who use the platform only to monetize
Everyone on Hive has total liberty to do what they want with their HIVE, HBD and HP.
Everyone on Hive has equal liberty to choose who to support and who not to support.
Those who have long-term goals on Hive and are primarily focused on increasing their HP are more likely to receive support on Hive and not only from Splinterlands ;)
Hive is fast, scalable and has many utilities and is highly decentralized.
Our community's challenge is to make the whole world realize that Hive is more unique than rare in the Web3 landscape!

Un KE < 1 indica un hiver che ha nel suo wallet più HP di quanti ne ha guadagnati tramite le attività di pubblicazione e di curation = un alta propensione allo staking dei token HIVE
Il KE è buon indicatore ma ognuno è libero di assegnargli un peso e un valore in base ai propri personali criteri.
Per quanto riguarda i contest di Splinterlands un KE > 3 senza la presenza di assets di Splinterlands e senza un interazione con gli altri autori di Hive può essere percepito come un interesse ad estrarre più che a supportare Hive e la comunità!
Se vuoi crescere su Hive e se hai un KE alto non è mai troppo tardi per cambiare e ti consiglio di dare più peso ai tuoi HP anche perchè molti progetti di curatela e supporto premiano gli utenti con KE basso, perché dimostrano impegno e fiducia nella piattaforma.

Come migliorare il tuo KE
Se hai un KE alto e vuoi migliorarlo(=abbassarlo) puoi:
- acquistare HIVE e fare Hive Power Up (HIVE -> HP)
- se hai HIVE liquidi puoi metterli in staking (HIVE Power Up)
- se hai HBD puoi convertirli in HIVE->HP
- puoi impostare le rewards dei tuoi post al 100% HP
Anche un account che ha un KE > 10 è sempre in tempo per cambiare comportamento e migliorare il suo KE.
La semplice scelta di utilizzare tutte le ricompense da autore e curatore per aumentare il HP produce effetti positivi e immediati sul KE.
Ad esempio se un hiver ha:
- Author (HP) = 10000
- Curation (HP) = 100
- HP = 1000
Se guadagna +1000 Author HP e li utilizza per aumentare gli HP = +1000 HP può passare da un KE = 10.1 ad un KE = 5.55
Considerazioni Finali
Personalmente considero le nuove regole introdotte nei contest di Splinterlands giuste e utili per il futuro dell'ecosistema di Hive per due motivi:
- Splinterlands è Powered by Hive e di recente ha ricevuto supporto dalla comunità di Hive che ha approvato e supportato la sua DHF Proposal
- le nuove regole garantiscono che il supporto di Splinterlands vada a chi supporta la crescita di Hive e non a chi utilizza la piattaforma solo per monetizzare
Ognuno su Hive è totalmente libero di fare quello che vuole con i propri HIVE, HBD e HP.
Ognuno su Hive è altrettanto libero di scegliere chi supportare e chi no.
Chi ha obiettivi di lungo termine su Hive ed è focalizzato principalmente sull'aumentare i propri HP ha più probabilità di ricevere supporto su Hive e non solo da Splinterlands ;)
Hive è veloce, scalabile e ha tante utilità ed è altamente decentralizzata.
La sfida della nostra comunità è fare in modo che tutto il mondo si accorga che Hive è più unica che rara nel panorama Web3!

Sono contento che lo staff di Splinterlands ha preso questa decisione, ci sono troppi furboni che guadagnano anche belle cifre su Hive e poi incassano tutto senza ridare nulla alla piattaforma.
assolutamente contento come te e tra l'altro adesso non votando chi pensava solo a farmare i giocatori che hanno obiettivi di medio-lungo termine su Hive potranno ricevere più attenzione e anche ricompense maggiori.
Penso le nuove regole siano una scelta del tipo win win che aiuta giocatori ed ecosistema ;)

I have my reasons not to like this indicator too much, when applied to individual accounts. It works well for a one-account user. In my case, for example, I have a KI of 0 for my staking account, and a KI above 8 for my posting account (where skake is fluid and not my primary goal to increase it, as it is for my staking account). Of course, one can calculate a composite KI on multiple accounts. If I take into account my staking account and my posting account, my composite KI is 0.62. And would be lower, but I powered down my posting account for any potential small term speculations on the regular P&Ds until the end of the bull market.
An indicator being the result of a mathematical calculation has no soul and therefore particular situations does not consider them but it is a good indicator if it works 99% of the time especially in a context like Hive that has so many variables.
For example consider that this indicator is only one of the factors that the Splinterlands curators consider.
In your case it is obvious that KE should be calculated on multiple accounts because you have an active delegation from an account that has the same name as you and so even in your case, if applied to your two accounts it returns a value that identifies a great hiver and you are one.
In the specific case of Splinterlands contests this indicator will bring so many benefits because so many accounts have KE =20+ some even 40+, do not have Splinterlands assets, do not interact on Hive but participate assiduously in contests for one reason only...
Even for Splinterlands contests, the same remarks need to be taken into account, if players have different accounts than their posting account(s). But overall, if special cases are taken into consideration, it's a pretty good indicator that shows who only extracts and who intends to grow their account(s).
I, when I curate Splinterlands posts, before excluding a post from curation I look:
In your case I would immediately notice that your KE is not from your posting account because you have an active delegation from your staking account. But without active delegation it is almost impossible for a curator to understand your situation because if a curator has to analyze every wallet he would curate a post every hour.
That is why if you participate in Splinterlands contests and should receive a message from the curators to increase your HP you can tag the curator and explain your situation ;)
Except for special cases like yours, which are few and can be solved by dialogue, in most cases the indicator will produce benefits and incentives ;)

Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one in such a complicated situation, although I know there are others who use an even more complex account structures.
It's ok, I wasn't complaining that I don't get curated. Just remarked my case, compared to how the KI indicator works.
Sometimes my situation works to my disadvantage. One example was when I delegated some HP to leo.voter. I couldn't get to the highest tier of rewards because I delegated from one account and posted from another. Another example is Holozing. Since I don't play games with my staking account, I couldn't delegate HP from there and benefit of the delegation rewards (only from a small delegation from the posting account). Obviously, most projects develop for the most often case there is. Exceptions take dev time to address, and I understand why they would rather focus on something else, more productive.

Direi che garantirebbe una buona valutazione: a questo punto peccato che non partecipo ai contest :D
questo dimosta la bontà di questo indicatore che forse andava applicato prima e io lo vedrei bene anche al posto della reputazione su Hive.
Ovviamente è un buon indicatore ma non è perfertto e ci sono aspetti che non considera o situazioni che potrebbe valutarle non bene ma nella maggior parte dei casi e soprattutto per i contest di Splinterlands è un ottimo indicatore se affiancato da una valutazione degli assets di Splinterlands e da una valutazione dell'attività di interazione su Hive...
Secondo me dovrebbero applicarlo alle reward delle battaglie di Splinterlands affiancandolo ai parametri già in uso, come quello degli SPS in stake.

Great post and very well explained! I think the change is fair and needed, Splinterlands is still a great game and fun to play and those who invest in it more heavily deserve to be rewarded. I really do hope that the game can turn things around and take advantage of the upcoming alt season.
