Previously, I mentioned that I'm quite a fan of the Super Smash bros. saga. Especially Super Smash Bros. Melee, which in general, is one of my favorite games.

This time I would like to talk about the game that started it all. The one that started this successful and beloved saga.

The Super Smas Bros saga began with the Nintendo 64 console in 1999. With the premise of bringing together several iconic characters from different games of the Nintendo franchise to make them fight each other.
La saga Super Smas Bros inició con la consola de Nintendo 64 en el año 1999. Con la presima de reunir varios personajes icónicos de distintos juegos de la franquicia de Nintendo para hacerlos luchar entre ellos.
In the introduction we can see a hand pulling out what looks like a Mario toy from a chest. He then counts down with his fingers and brings it to life. Then we see a mini-introduction of the other playable characters and we are shown how they fight each other.

In this game we will only have 8 usable characters from the beginning. And then, as we play, we can unlock 4. So there would be 12 in total. We would start with Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox and Pikachu. And then Luigi, Captain Falcon, Ness and Jigglypuff would be added.

Which I like a lot, since it is not saturated with so many characters as it is now. I think the mistake of the new releases is to load them with too many characters. To the point that even if you're into the Nintendo world, you don't get to know many of them. So in this sense, even though it's already outdated and obsolete, I'll stick with the initial catalog of characters. They are few and almost everyone knows them.

Al punto de que aunque estés metido en el mundo de Nintendo, muchos no los llegas a conocer. This game not only brings together the most relevant Nintento characters, but also diverse scenarios and different objects. We can fight in Zelda's castle, in the mushroom kingdom, on top of Fox's ship, and so on. And as for objects, during the battle we can appear Poke balls, Mario mushrooms, red shells, green, etc.. Which really makes it feel like a combination of several games.
Este juego no solo junta a los personajes más relevante de Nintento, también diversos escenarios y distintos objetos. Podemos pelear en el castillo de Zelda, en el reino champiñón, encima de la nave de Fox, etc. Y en cuanto a objetos, durante la batalla nos puede aparecer Poke bolas, Hongos de Mario, caparazones rojos, verdes, etc. Lo que hace que de verdad se sienta que sea una combinación de varios juegos.
One negative point is that the Nintendo 64 joystick is very uncomfortable for this game. There is a general consensus that this Joystick is bad, that's why a similar one was never made again, but for this game it is especially horrible. Playing a fighting game like this is a real torture. And if anyone got to play it on their original console, you'll understand what I'm saying. Luckily for the Nintendo Game Cube the joystick changed radically. Making it much more comfortable and adaptable to a normal hand.
Un punto negativo es que el joystick de Nintendo 64 es muy incómodo para este juego. Hay un consenso general en que este Joystick es malo, por eso no se volvió a fabricar uno similar, pero para este juego es especialmente horrible. Jugar un juego de pelea así es una verdadera tortura. Y si alguien lo llegó a jugar en su consola original, entenderá lo que digo. Por suerte para la Nintendo Game Cube el joystick cambió radicalmente. Haciendo mucho más cómodo y adaptable a una mano normal.
Anyway, even though Super Smash Bros 64 is nowadays an old and outdated game, I have a special affection for it. I will never forget those teenage afternoons where I spent playing it and trying to complete it 100%. And where I was happy to discover and unlock a new character. I am very happy to know that after 25 years, this game saga is still going strong. Although I only had the chance to play the first 3 installments.
En fin, a pesar de que Super Smash Bros 64 al día de hoy sea un juego viejo y anticuado, yo le guardo un especial cariño. Nunca me voy a olvidar esas tardes de adolescencia donde me la pasaba jugando y tratando de completarlo al 100%. Y donde me ponía contento al poder descubrir y desbloquear un nuevo personaje. Me alegra mucho saber que después de 25 años, aún sigue siendo vigente esta saga de juegos. Aunque que yo solo tuve la posibilidad de jugar sus 3 primeras entregas.

I like the times when we had limited number of games and we spent a lot of time completing them 100%. Those memories are so precious. Nowadays, we are kind of spoilt because of the library of games we have available on our fingertips. It has its advantages but a lot of disadvantages too.
Your comment is very true. Games are not valued in the same way now as they were 20 years ago. Added to the fact that now games are bought in pieces, with the DLC theme. On the one hand, I like that there is a lot of supply, but that makes it very fast to discard a game. It's an interesting topic to do a future blog on.
