US-based OpenSea has begun banning users residing in Iran, according to multiple reports from frustrated NFT collectors and creators who recently found themselves unable to access the site.

An OpenSea representative confirmed the ban and told it was intended for users located in sanctioned areas, adding:

OpenSea prohibits US sanctioned users and territories from using our Services, including buying, selling, or transferring NFTs on OpenSea, where our Terms of Service expressly prohibit sanctioned users from using our Services.

We have a zero-tolerance policy for the use of our Services by sanctioned individuals or entities and persons located in sanctioned countries.

If we find individuals violating our sanctions policy, we take prompt action to ban linked accounts.

More than five Iranian OpenSea users reported the problem, and three of them confirmed via Decrypt that they used the site while in Iran.

One user told Iran that their set of photos are no longer visible on the platform.

Another Iranian user of the OpenSea platform also wrote that he received a 404 error message when trying to access the platform.

An Iranian user reported that her verified account had been removed without explanation.

With a recent external phishing attack worth $1.7 million, a lawsuit over “Bored Ape NFT” theft, $1.8 million has been refunded to users who lost NFT from exploiting the platform.

Therefore, it can be said that the site is still facing challenges despite seeing billions of monthly sales.
