Balancing my way through life

It is funny how life experiences have changed me over the years and I have adopted a couple of lifestyles to help me achieve my dreams and aspirations. A lot of people get lost at one point in their life or another and what I mean by get lost is that they have no sense of purpose or direction and this is especially true for students who just graduated from the university. Back when they were in the university, they had just one main goal; to graduate but after achieving this goal, now what?

Should they further their studies? Learn a skill? Start a business? Or join the millions of graduates out there to struggle for the few available jobs? At this point, all these numerous options can feel very overwhelming and lead to mistakes if they aren't careful. For me, I already had a plan even before graduating from the university and that was to learn a digital skill and make money with it. Right now, I'm currently learning programming and I aim to be a professional software engineer before this year ends.

Programming isn't easy and is also a large field with so much to learn. In addition to that, I also have to juggle various aspects of my life while learning it and it was very difficult at first to balance the whole thing but as time went on, I developed a lifestyle that is now helping me to maintain balance in my life. Apart from programming, another important thing I need to focus on every day is making money, and that's where Hive comes in. I also work as a freelancer on a certain platform and now I will talk about some of the things I have adapted that help me to maintain balance.

Good time management

Before now, my time management was very bad and I realized that at the end of the day, I had not completed some of the tasks I set out to do that day. It's either I end up getting distracted most of the time by TikTok or video games or I get too invested in a coding project for several hours or on some rare occasions, spend most of my time doing Hive activities. I realize that I have a lot on my plate every day and to maintain a balance between these things, I decided to plan my day properly.

The first thing was to figure out my topmost priority and that is coding, so I created a schedule for it where I allocated specific hours to it daily. I always stopped coding at either 4 or 5 PM, then I focused on Hive. This has made a huge difference and I can now accomplish a lot more every day. I recently just started freelancing and that's a new activity I have to allocate a certain amount of time daily, which means I will have to modify my coding schedule.

Limit time on social media and games

I used to be a huge social media freak and would spend a ridiculous amount of time on Whatsapp, TikTok and YouTube. I also played video games a lot, and I tell you that these things are big time-wasters because before you know it, the day has ended and you realize you haven't done a lot of things you planned that day. So, I reduced the amount of time I spend on these distractions and only use them when I'm on break (indicated by the blank spaces in my coding schedule).

I no longer spend as much time on Whatsapp and only go there when I receive a message. I only use YouTube these days for watching coding tutorials and courses while TikTok is still the one I use for fun but also for learning new things. I guess spending less time on these things is one of the side effects of good time management and figuring out my priorities. Even though I have a lot of things I want to accomplish, I no longer feel overwhelmed by them and using this lifestyle, I can now focus on the things that matter while also making time to indulge in distractions

You've got. Mind-blowing and yet effective worklife balance strategy, programming is every large and can be time consuming, and if one don't have a well lay down plan like you, it'll be hard to have time for other aspects of life.

Limiting time on gaming and social media is another way forward because those can be addictive and eat up our time.

Knowing how valuable time is makes it easier to manage and leads to better use of it, that's what I realized and it helped me to cut down on the time I spend on games and social media. Thanks for stopping by

Time management is very important. I currently face joggling a number of things which are dear to me but one thing that has saved me from losing grasp of ehat should be and getting overwhelmed, is recogjizing ehat is important, cutting of non-necessities and allocating some good time to every task. It really has improved my balance in my activities.

Time management remains the greatest friend of a balanced life.... It will help you fit in everything you can achieve and also take care of yourself.

Funny how you said programming first and then making money next, I get you though just that programming is also a great way of livelihood, hopefully when you're done you'll start reaping the fruits of your sufferings now

That's exactly why I'm learning programming, it's a great means of livelihood 😁 but since I'm still a learner and not yet working professionally with it, I need a way of making money to buy the basic things I need every day. Thanks for stopping by
