More PTR play testing (nature and light)
Intro
I tried to play a lot of different gods and archetypes during the PTR testing and record some games for those unable to play (or who played other decks). In this post, I have some regen nature and (even more aggro) Light.
Regen Nature
Game 1
I match up against the new Deception archetype that spits out buffed war cards. Looks like a ton of fun to play (and really strong). Madame Denholm gives me a run for my money, but I pick the right line at 5 mana (with Trial of Hydra) and pull it out. Healing on attack with the Dryad's is also crucial.
Even with this heal-focus deck, the Flourish god power was very underwhelming. Definitely stick with Selena's Mark or Animal Bond. I think Mark is the better pick most of the time for this deck. The key to this deck is the legendary cards. If you don't pull them, the deck is going to struggle. Luckily, we pull Dagan early here.
Game 2
In game 2, I match up against a War deck going for the 100 favor meme win. He doesn't make it (spoiler alert). The game blows open at 5.5 mana when Dagan gets a good target. Selena's Mark gives a ton of value in this game, too.
Light
Game 1
My games with light didn't go so well - mainly because I kept matching into Anubians. In this game, Death opens with 4 1/1s turn 1. And of course, each time those skellies come back, they come summon an extra 1/1!
I think Call of the Light is just too slow for this matchup. I thought I had just about pulled this off, but then the heirloom finisher solidified the L. Amazing that a deck full of 1/1s can make it to 7 so easily. When matching up against anubians, I think taking the Heal god power is going to be critical.
Game 2
So this time, I thought I was so clever. I went back and slotted in Eucose in Eclipse. This would crush any Anubians I ran into! As it turns out, it kills them before giving soulless, so in this game, you get to watch me wreck myself. Hoping they change the card: it doesn't even do the one thing it's supposed to counter.
It's also complete and total BS that Light's Levy puts the creature in their void. This means that stealing the priestest did nothing to stop it from being revived. I also got screwed over by getting to greedy and flooding the board into Ragnarok. So lessons learned all around.
Conclusions
Anubians clearly OP. There are some rumors that there might be some last-minute adjustments before going live, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Almost a certainty that the first weekend ranked is going to be dominated by the deck. Here's hoping, though. Even the suboptimal lists I ran were stupidly powerful. The games above show some people who developed really solid lists and could win almost any matchup.
Light. Game 1 -- you lost because the opponent had that legendary card at the right moment (but the health of your god was too low so you were at the risk zone anyway). Some MJ legs are insane. I feel old top monsters will look humble in the shadow of the new ones.
Light has a row of spells that obliterate cards or pull them into the owner's deck so the void of Anubians can be half-empty. I have experienced this once to the full extent while playing Anubians in PTR. Lysander's Mercy was the worst.
7 mana is quite late but a control deck can stretch the game.
