Summercastle in Winter

When I was a kid, snow was a common thing here in winter. But global warming is an unfortunate reality. Today, snow is quite rare. So when it snowed a bit two days ago, I decided to take some winter photos of a Prague landmark. Tomorrow, the thaw is due to begin.

I have to admit that I didn't choose the monument I wanted to photograph with any difficulty. I was just passing by, it was still light and I had some time. So I photographed it.

I thought this photo was probably the best. It's a view of the back of the summercastle. I had plenty of room. The background is also quite nice.

This is the front view. If I took another step back, I'd be in danger of being hit by a car. Or I could have crossed to the other side of the road and photographed along with the moving cars. As I decided, you see.

But what am I photographing? A summer house!

I cannot assume that everyone who stops by this article knows Czech. So just briefly. The castle was built by a very noble and very rich count between 1715 and 1720. The Count paid for a top architect, a top sculptor and an above-average painter.

However, the Count soon died and in 1729 the manor was acquired by another owner. The owners changed quickly and the purpose of the building changed as well.

There was a restaurant, a workhouse, a school, a warehouse and cattle grazing. Now the building is owned by the National Museum and houses an exhibition on the life and work of the composer Antonín Dvořák.

I arrived at the building shortly before closing time. So I will stick to my original intention to photograph architecture and sculptures in winter.

Just a week ago it was warm here and some of the trees started to bloom.

Maybe there won't be any more snow in Prague tomorrow night, so I'll enjoy today.

Every Baroque castle, however small, had to have a garden. Only the statues and the ground plan have survived from the original one. The garden has been rebuilt as an English park and has been limited by the surrounding buildings.

The mansion is almost completely lost among the surrounding buildings. Anyone who doesn't know where to look has trouble finding it. Prague, my city, certainly offers hundreds and maybe even thousands of such small beautiful places.

I think I have an agenda for many years if I try to present these places.

I have the impression that writers are more often featuring holiday destinations they have visited under the hashtag #pinnmaple. Are there any other natives besides me who write about their country, their city? I don't know. I definitely see it as an opportunity for myself. I hope that at least some readers will be interested in my articles.

Poznámka pro případného českého čtenáře.

Můj zaměstnavatel mi proplácí tramvajenku. Vyplním si papírovou žádost. Dám hospodářce, ta ji dá k potvrzení a k podpisu ředitelce. Pak ji oscanuje a pošle mailem na dopravní podniky. Ty mi napíší, že se mohu v úředních hodinách dostavit do ulice Na Bojišti 5, k přpážce číslo 4. A nechat si tam kupon na svoji Lítačku nahrát. Vystál jsem tam dnes frontu 30 minut. Jářku, není něco špatně s tou digitalizací státu?

No a když už jsem tam byl, tak jsem si skočil na dalších třicet minut nadělat něco zimních fotografií. Vizte článek.
