Card Highlights #55: Dragon Egg Forager

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Dragons are a symbol of power and mystery in Splinterlands and the Dragon Egg Forager lives up to that legend. This rare unit that I just discovered may bring a mix of new tactics making it a fun addition to your Dragon Element strategies. If you enjoy technical set ups with adaptable units, this card will feel right at home in your deck.
Lore
There are many uses for dragon eggs: they are a source of dragon magic; the shell can be woven into clothing and armor to enhance its protective properties; if one has a complete disregard for their safety, they might hatch the egg and attempt to tame the hatchling; they also make for a delectable omelet.
Subsequently, dragon-egg foraging is an incredibly lucrative business. It’s also incredibly dangerous, so if you decide to try your hand at it, best make sure your last will and testament is up-to-date.

Card Effects
Opportunity |
This is a very good ability letting Dragon Egg Forager pick off weak enemies and disrupt your opponent's strategy. It works best in battles with many low health units. This ability works really good with Dragon Egg Forager in two ways, it picks off low health units which is good for your Scavenger ability and allows your Dragon Egg Forager, a melee unit, to attack from any position.
Scavenger |
Scavenger is another strong ability making Dragon Egg Forager tankier as the battle continues. It works well in long battles or rule sets where units die quickly or rule sets that can make units revive for a second time.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Dragon Egg Forager’s high melee attack and solid health make it a reliable option in melee only battles. Its Opportunity ability ensures it can hit enemies that pose a threat to your team. With Scavenger, it gains more health, making it more durable as the battle progresses. |
The lack of armor makes it other opportunity attacks which can take it down quickly. The earlier it dies, the worst the value you can get from Scavenger. Dragon Egg Forager also loses a lot of utility in rule sets that does not allow its Opportunity to work. |
When To Use
Born Again |
This is great for Dragon Egg Forager because Rebirth allows units that dies to be reborn. Each death, whether it's the first or second time, gives stacks to Scavenger allowing Scavenger to build up more health.
Up Close & Personal |
Dragon Egg Forager shines here because it can use its Opportunity ability to attack even from the back.
Noxious Fumes |
This is a good match since poison can kill enemies faster which helps Scavenger gain health. Each death makes your Dragon Egg Forager's Scavenger gain health and this gives you an edge over time.
When Not To Use
Fog of War |
This is bad because Opportunity does not work reducing Dragon Egg Forager’s effectiveness.
Fab Four |
This is also bad since fewer units on the battlefield mean fewer Scavenger stacks.
Reverse Speed |
This is a bad match because its high speed lowers its chances of attacking first. This makes Dragon Egg Scavenger miss its attack more often.

This was a very easy battle just because I have a level advantage. Levels are really a big thing compared to better team composition. This is because the higher the levels of your monsters, the stronger they are.
Final Thoughts
One thing I want to point out is I did a mistake on this game. It's not a big deal because like I said, I had a level advantage. It's still a mistake though that I need to fix. The problem is in positioning.
I am playing Lily Shieldpaw in this battle and Lily Shieldpaw gives my team Camouflage. When all your units have Camouflage, it kind of gives the enemy team a Fog of War-like situation where they can only attack your front unit. They can only attack Djinn Chwala in this situation regardless if they use abilities like Opportunity, Snipe and Sneak. I should've put Dragon Egg Forager at the farthest to make sure to get the most of Scavenger. Halfling Refugee should also be in the front or behind it for it to die quickly since he's only added for the extra mana.
This was my first session of using Dragon Egg Forager and I am happy. I didn't realize Lily Shieldpaw with a Scavenger unit can be really strong. It forces the enemy to play to your team. It makes me think if using Last Stand can be added in this putting the Last Stand unit at the farthest to make it the last unit to fight. This can make sure your you can make use most of your Last Stand and Scavenger. Maybe that can be my next topic?
