Card Highlights #39: Pelacor Conjurer

No, I never saw an angel, but it is irrelevant whether I saw one or not. I feel their presence around me.

I like to give the spotlight to units that we usually use but don't realize we're doing so. Sometimes, the way to see the value in something is to put it under a microscope. This week's main hero will be the ever reliant winged unit from Life element, Pelacor Conjurer.

Lore
Many centuries ago, the Pelacor followed the prophet, Edalus, on what has become known as the 'Exile.' They followed him into the Mountains of Fire surrounding Mount Praetorous. For generations they lived alone in these mountains, hidden away. They were taught to worship the sun and moon gods, Solaki and Lunaki, deities dreamt into existence from the bones of Edalus' dead parents and his zealous mind. The scriptures read that the two Gods were carried into the heavens upon pieces of consecrated land, torn from the World to raise them high, so that their worshipers would always look up to them and forever be beneath their great heavenly power.
On the darkest night of each year, Edalus would invoke rituals that would change the bodies of his people. Drawing upon the dormant power beneath the mountains, he caused angelic wings to sprout from their backs. This change was permanent and, in fact, most Pelacor offspring inherited the appendages from their parents.

Card Stats
![]() |
Card Effects
![]() Flying |
Combined with Pelacor Conjurer's high speed, a lot of melee and range units would normally miss their attacks when facing this unit.
![]() Magic Reflect |
Since Flying and his high speed takes care of the melee and range attacks, then any magic attacks, on the other hand, are gets redirected back at the attacker. While this ability does not reduce magic attacks, it's still a good ability to counter magic attacks.
![]() Divine Shield |
It's a good ability but nothing fancy. It negates one instance of attack regardless of the damage.
![]() Phase |
So, if you are not satisfied with Magic Reflect, Phase works better since this ability also takes Speed and Flying into consideration when a magic attack tries to hit him.

Strengths & Weaknesses
His stats and abilities are really good. One good advantage though is that since he does not have any attacks, he can gain one through Weapons Training. |
Without Weapons Training, Pelacor Conjurer does not have any attacks. Even with Weapons Training though, he still gets double damage from any attacks from units with Fury. Unless that attack misses, then Pelacor Conjurer might die very quick in that situation. |

When To Use
![]() Explosive Weaponry |
The reason why this unit is good to use is due to his high speed. If the enemies miss their attacks, then the units beside him won't get any blast damage.
![]() Earthquake |
Since this unit has Flying ability, then he won't get any damage from this rule set.
Since Pelacor Conjurer does not have any armor, then there's no negative consequence for using him in this rule set.

When Not To Use
![]() Up Close & Personal |
Any rule sets that forces you to use a specific attack is a negative since you cannot use this unit in that rule set.
![]() Equalizer |
Unless you would be using low health units, then the advantage given by Equalizer will mostly be gained by your enemies since Pelacor Conjurer has very high health for 2 mana.
![]() Ferocity |
Since everyone has Fury, then Pelacor Conjurer will surely gets double damage for each attack.

I had huge advantage on set due to Lily Shieldpaw. Since the attacks will surely be coming on the front, then I can abuse Pelacor Conjurer's high health. His high speed was a problem though since in this battle, it has Reverse Speed rule set, which means the higher the speed the unit has, the easier it is to hit them. Rage's Weapons Training with Pelacor Conjurer and Gelatinous Cube though was a big thing giving my team an increased 6 magic damage for both of them making this battle a lot easier than it should be.

Final Thoughts
It was interesting to see what more this common unit can offer. I always thought he was just a filler since he costs 2 mana but after doing this, it changed my view.
Although requiring a very low mana to use, Pelacor Conjurer is one hell of a tank. Not only you can use him in a lot of ways, but ironically, him lacking the capability to attack is one of the reason why he's so strong.
Weapons Training is God sent from heaven for units such as Pelacor Conjurer and with the multiple choices you can have, every card release increases the potential of Pelacor Conjurer to be stronger. Only the future holds of how much amazing this card can be and only time can tell when we would hit that ceiling.
