Summoner's Week: Waka Spiritblade
Introduction
Has 3 mana cost and can gives the Poison ability to all of your monsters allowing them to inflict Poisoned status to your enemies.
Waka Spiritblade is a Promotional summoner. He's a legendary summoner that only has level 4 and no level lower than that. This is a good thing since he's the only one you need across all the leagues you will be in and no need to level him up as you go along.
Poison: Monsters with poison has a chance of applying Poisoned status to your opponents when hit by attcks.
Poisoned Status: Poisoned monsters takes 2 true damage at the start of every round
Pros
- Low Mana Cost. - With only 3 mana cost, you can use your mana more freely and able to use stronger monsters even in only decent mana caps.
- Poison ability is one of the strongest in the game. - Poison directly damages the health. This does not miss and is takes effect every round. Inflicting poison is technically the same as getting a +2 magic on your overall damage each round making it one of the strongest ability in the game.
- Has maximum level across the board. - With a rarity of Legendary and level starting at 4, renting Waka Spiritblade, or better, owning him, means he's the ONLY summoner you need for Death Splinter. You can use the maximum potential of your monsters each game regardless of what league you play in.
Cons
- Expensive to Buy or Rent.- Being a legendary promotional card, he's expensive to use regardless of if you buy or rent.
- Can be countered with Cleanse and Immunity.- Fortunately, Scarred Llama Mage is now unavailable in Modern Format but your opponents can still use monsters with Immunity ability. This makes them immune to all kinds of negative status including Poisoned status.
- Limited Good Monster Pool.- There are only a few monsters with Scattershot ability that are in Neutral and Death Splinters. While you can use others, these are the best but very few in numbers.
Aimless |
All monsters on the board gains the Scattershot ability. Scattershot ability changes the targetting mechanics of the monster to random.: With Aimless, everybody have Scattershot. With all having the ability to attack random opponents each round, your picks won't be limited to a few number of monsters with Scattershot abilities.
Armored Up |
All monsters gain +2 armor for this battle. Armored Up is especially good with magic damage as their attacks passes through armor.: Even though you use monsters with Range or Melee damage types, it doesn't change the fact that they can still poison opponents directly damaging the health. Armored Up also help you survive more. The longer you survive, the more damage the Poison will do.
Equalizer |
The Max Health of all monsters on the board will be equal to the Max Health of the monster with the highest max health.: Whle you can still use Magi Necrosi, two of your best monsters are range. Not being able to use these two means reducing the access to inflicting poison to your opponents at the different positions at the same time. |
Silenced Summoners |
During this battle, all summoners loses their effects.: The strategy relies on Waka Spiritblade's ability so removing the poison ability will decrease the damage your team can do.
Equal Opportunity |
All monsters on the board gains the Opportunity ability. Opportunity ability changes the targetting mechanics of the monster prioritizing he lowest health monster on te opponent's side.: This is the contrast of Aimless. With this rule of combat, everyone has Opportunity ability which targets the opponent's monster with the least health. This means they would focus on one monster at a time. This can be countered by using monsters with Scattershot ability since Scattershot takes priority disabling the Opportunity ability given by the Equal Opportunity rule of combat.
Wands Out |
During this battle, only monsters with magic damage type are allowed.: With Aimless, everybody have Scattershot. With all having the ability to attack random opponents each round, your picks won't be limited to a few number of monsters with Scattershot abilities. |
Avarisdeus |
Avarisdeus is the best monster to combine with Waka Spiritblade. Not only he has Scattershot allowing him to apply poison to new monsters each round but Double Strike ability for a chance to have the Poison applied to up to two monsters each round.
Drybone Bowdog |
Drybone Bowdog is a neutral monster with Scattershot ability an Ambush. Normally, he is very weak with that 1 damage but damage is not important when using Waka Spiritblade but it's the Scattershot ability that he can use to apply on different opponents each round.
Magi Necrosi |
Poison ability is a "chance only" ability. It has the same mechanics with Stun ability and Affliction. Hitting an opponent doesn't mean poison will be applied but if you have attacks that are 100% guaranteed to hit, you only need to think of the 50% chance which is a lot higher than having melee or range that "needs to hit first before having a chance for the poison to be applied." Magi Necrosi also has Snipe ability which can help you eliminate opponent's supports which may have lower health than their main tank. Killing lower health opponents early will decrease their overall damage and efficiency as the battle goes on. |
I added as much mixed targetting as possible in this lineup since my priority is applying Waka Spiritblade's poison ability to my opponents. Since the ability does not stack, it would take a long time if I focused on one monster at a time instead of applying poison to multiple monsters at once and let the poison do the damage.
Lineup
Waka Spiritblade
A very strong summoner since he eliminates the need for damage. Even if your monsters have 1 damage, as long as they have compatible abilities, they will be strong under the command of Waka Spiritblade due to his poison ability.
Cursed Windeku
I find him a very strong tank due to his high health. High health means it would take quite a few attacks for my opponents to kill him if they used magic damage even though Cursed Windeku doesn't have any defensive abilities.
Silent Sha-Vi
With a decent healt and Sneak ability, he is a good substitute for a secondary tank while being melee and able to attack at the same time.
Avarisdeus
Not only he has Scattershot but also Double Strike. This makes him the very good with Waka Spiritblade since he can apply poison to two different opponents at a time.
Ravenhood Warden
I was concerned with my monsters getting eliminated if my opponent used Opportunity since a lot of them have low health. Ravenhood Warden's Protect ability is a good addition to make them survive longer through that extra 2 armor.
Drybone Bowdog
He has Scattershot and Ambush. Although it didn't happen in this battle since his attack to Magi of Chaos missed, it would be very nice to inflict poison to an enemy before the start of the battle eliminating them as soon as the battle starts. He contributed a lot later though with his Scattershot ability applying poison to other monsters.
Magi Necrosi
With his Snipe ability and magic damage, he has high chance of applying poison to support monsters that may make my life miserable
Scattershot did a lot this game. Along with Waka Spiritblade's Poison ability, monsters with Scattershot were able to poison enemies that were not poisoned. This went really well as multiple opponents took poison damage each round.
The poisoned damage also went really well in reducing Quora Towershead's heal while killing Goblin Psychic. This made my life easier as to not deal with two heals when Quora went to 1st position.
This was a strategy that I thought at the start of the Rebellion but was never able to test since Waka Spiritblade started to rise in rental price. Even in this battle, Waka Spiritblade costed me 36 DEC per day instead of the normal 20+ DEC per day before the release of Rebellion.
This strategy is really good since poisoned status and poison damage does not stack. If a monster is poisoned, it can't take more poisoned damage. That's why it's better to attack enemies in multiple positions and apply poison on others. Scattershot did this role pretty well and is probably one o the best ways to use this ability.
