Trial and Error (World Building Notes)
I thought this could be an interesting prompt to use to ponder something that has been floating around in my mind, AI is an interesting topic, and it hasn't really featured in the world I'm writing about; it could be a small part of it, and why not? It's a weird dystopian science fiction story, so I'm sure there's room for AI.
Advanced A.I
A.A.I. is advanced intelligence injected into machines, that would be able to run factories, but it was produced and contained within computers, in order to run simulations and was heralded as a way to cut down on wasted time/ expenditure for companies.
The more companies bought the product to use, the more funding went into advancing it and the quicker the knowledge grew as it was fed data on mass. Eventually, it was expanded upon using all the analytical data it was fed over the years, to the point that AI started to run the economy and done so far faster and more efficiently than humans - also, all corruption was cut out of the world as greed wasn't apart of the programming and seen as a defect by the AI. If ever there was an irregularity, the AI would contain and purge those segments of code.
AI and Art
With the economy prospering and people living happier than they ever had before in The Confederation worlds, the idea of using AI commercially for art was expanded upon. Not just pictures, paintings, and sketches, but music, poems, and writing too. Eventually, AI was far superior than humanity, and it was able to churn masterworks out in a matter of days, completely using its own ideas.
Machines being more creative than humans was a joke until it actually happened.
Eventually, all culture was created by AI, there was no idea that hadn't been done, before AI, but after it, there was nothing that hadn't been done a thousand times better.
This started the Art Wars, which was spearheaded by an anonymous group of disgruntled artists who sought out the servers of these machines and destroyed them. During this time, many people were arrested and a few were killed, but in the end, they succeeded in destroying this branch of AI, and in one afternoon they undid countless hours of trial and error simulations and destroyed the machine's ideas of what art was.
After the dust settled, these AI masterworks were gathered up and destroyed, although some managed to secure odd pieces of work, which by todays standards are some of the most valuable pieces of art in the world; even more so than some pieces of work from antiquity.
The End of AI
The institutions that had been overlooking some of these projects decided to put a hiatus on utilising these programs; or at least they did, as far as the public was concerned.
Some say that there were private groups and specialised branches of government that still worked in secret, testing the limits of what was possible. But no information ever came out to suggest that these conspiracy theories have any validity.
Space Travel
This is one aspect of life that all could agree AI done better, during the simulations it had created a method for space travel, which was far superior to what was currently imagined.
Jump lanes - which essentially mapped out space like a city would map out its roads, the AI cartographers would head out into the stars and find the closest routes from one planet to another, and they would ensure that they mapped the safest way of reaching it with no obstacles. Utilising this idea, a ship's navigation chart did not have to adjust the ship's trajectory constantly, meaning it could travel faster.
It was possible for a ship to enter a jump lane outside of the mapped-out ones, but, doing so outside of a charted area would be slower; some thought it was better however, as there was no chance of being stopped by raiders, pirates, or the government, who would set up blockades along jump lanes which would cause a ship to instantly drop from its jump.
This is both amazing and scary to be honest. Ai tech is something we are experimenting still and absolutely 💯 possible to live such things like this. When I read the tech wars and art wars, it almost felt real. So this may not be far away.
It is obvious that Ai will help us but I don't like that it is even now taking the place of artists.
Good writing, congratulations 🎊 👏
Thanks so much for thr great comment, I'm glad you liked this one, I found it interesting to write about.
I like the idea of the Art Wars, especially the idea of them gathering up the AI art and writings and burning/ destroying them all. I like things like that, is it bad to destroy art if it was created by machines? No, it's only generated and wasn't created with love. Yes, because it's still destroying work. I love ideas like that with no right answer.
Also, the idea the work that was saved is worth more than ancient works haha kind of ironic.
