Stop borrowing your money

I have seen best friends and even family members become strong enemies because one party borrowed the other some money and the supposed borrower refused to pay back.

This particular action happens all the time and I am sure in one way or the other, we have all been in this position. Either we borrowed from someone or someone borrowed from us.

Before now, I use to lend money to anyone who comes to me. I mean, if you have some money and someone needs it for an emergency, instead of letting it to lie there, won't you give the person to sort out his or her emergency? That has been my own ideology for a long time now.

But recently, I stopped lending people money because on several occasions, I have had my own share of disappointment. The one that made me to take that decision was when I had to lend my friend a huge sum of money for her project. She told me with all assurance that she will give it back to me by month end when her own salary comes. I thought about it and agreed after all I had no urgent need for the money and month end was just the next week. I agreed and forwarded the money to her.

She thanked me and that was it. Month end reached and I didn't hear anything from her. At first I said I was not going to her call her. Let her use her common sense to repay.

After like two weeks into the new month, I called her and she said she had used her salary for something else that came up. I asked her what came up and she had no tangible explanation to give me. I was so furious. She wasn't even bothered about anything.

The whole month finished and I didn't see a dime from her. I called her mother to complain and her mum said I should not worry that my money will come. This so called friend called me to warn me never to call her mum again saying that the business was between i and her and not her mum. I was angry to my teeth.

This was the same person that was so humble when she came to collect that money. When they come to borrow from you, they will use the best emotional tone and even want to blackmail you emotionally to help them. Once you do, they are gone and you will look like a devil when you ask them for your own money.

I had to let go of the money after trying to recover in vain. And since then, I vowed never to borrow anything to anyone again. If i feel like giving you willingly from my heart, I will and not expect anything back in return. But borrowing that money to you, is a big NO from my end. That's the best way to avoid having enemies at the end of the day.
