Splinterlands: The Active Player's Incentives & The Secret To HODLING your Packs

Upping The Active Player's Incentive

In my Splinterlands posts where I talked about my experiences and lesson learned playing the game, I've championed for more Incentivization especially to active players irrespective of their league or resources owned because the fact that they're not yet invested but still turning out on a daily to play the game means that they're deserved of a little chunk of the pie. It could more season rewards per game played or better Incentives for maybe constantly completing the daily tasks with of course a better algorithm in place to check if a new account is part of an account owned by an already established player.

These things would generally happen. Abuse is a human impulse that lies within especially when there's the prospect of earning or having more even when one already seem to have had just enough, some will still find ways to pillage the system, but this shouldn't stop active players from earning at least a little Incentive for playing.

If investor takes the whole chunk alone, a time will come when people would just invest, wait for passive Income and never play simply because it's more rewarding go just wait for a passive Income, overtime, the rentals might worth really loss, because active playing will reduce. The effect is that when active playing drastically reduces, it affects the entire economy and even the money will stop being super.

Then we forget that it's firstly a game, before a source for investing and passive earning. Overtime I've come to enjoy playing and opening more packs. The anticipation of opening a particular pack and getting a GFL is always the expectations. Getting some very good rare and epic cards sometimes often feels like there's a GFL looming in the next pack you might open. This is the very human emotion that makes it difficult for one to hold on to their packs without having the inclination to open it.

Checking The Excessive Anticipation

However, I've found out that the best way to hold on to the packs is to run out of potion. Potion increases one's chances at something better when they are opening the packs and having them in abundance means there's nothing stopping one from opening everything. Many Splinterlands players cum investors originally buy packs and the most juicy aspect is pulling out a GFL, getting multiple airdrops for owning these packs or even holding on to these Packs until when scarcity kicks in and the Packs are sold out which should simultaneously increase the pack value

However, a lot of people will no longer have any pack before the remaining chaos legion packs sells out and this is majorly because, some people are recyclers, they open the packs, if they pull out something good, they'll see it, then invest it in more packs. Some are building their deck and the only way to have more monsters is to actually open these packs.

So there are reasons and need to actually open the packs to more than hodling it. hodling is futuristic. No one is certain as to what the scarcity might be like when the time comes. People hodls based on the past events. However, these past events are only permutations as there's nothing solid. What is currently tangible is that you're likely to pull out the biggest reward of your life if you keep opening the packs. This present certainty holds more logic than waiting till the future, when the packs are sold out and hoping to take advantage of scarcity.

The inclination to however open the packs rather than selling them is good for the game and the system. This is because if everyone keeps to their promises of holding their packs rather than holding it, then there really wouldn't be scarcity, when the packs eventually sells out, even it there was, reselling the packs wouldn't come with outrageous profits since the people selling the packs are equal to those willing to buy.

HODLING & SELLING: Attaining A Balance

The human perspectives also contribute value to the game as well. Overtime I've stopped opening my packs because I've deliberately run out of potion. This means that the real Incentives for opening the packs has been shattered by the fact that my chances of pulling out something special has taken a hit, and now I'm slowly concentrated on playing and the urge to open these packs is no longer there.

Another thing is, having in mind that holding these packs increases my SPS collection point is also something that confines me, but this doesn't mean it would work the same way for another player. Another thing I've recently started doing is taking the daily quests rather seriously, this might be very difficult especially when you have to strictly follow the rule of a battle as well as set your game plan to suit your daily quest. I would like to know, do you have a drastic measure that stops you from the excessive habits of incessantly opening your packs?

Another thing I've recently started doing is taking the daily quests rather seriously

From personal experience daily quest reward has been more rewarding to me than end of season reward, I can't be certain if this is almost a general case but it would make sense if it is as it motivates players to play daily and get rewarded rather than play few days for end of season reward.

Truth is, it's basically different for some other people. Rewards for daily quest has always been shitty for me. But it helps me master the elements so what I totally do is try wait for the end of the season reward after grinding and endlessly getting beaten hahahaha.

I think potions are great and the daily quest just adds to my own stockpile of them. At least I can't seem to get enough of them even if I was annoyed by them at first. When I first started playing, I was like "What is the use of these dumb potions?". It changed over time as I learned how much they matter when opening packs.

Hahaha I was totally angry at the beginning, when I was getting them. It was because of these potions I stopped playing daily quests at first, I thought cards were the only thing that actually mattered. It's great to see how it's necessary for opening packs.

Always love your approach, when the portion is not there you won’t feel like opening packs. Well daily quest as always been the best when it comes to reward and I love it to

That's it brotherly, when there's no potion, then what's the essence of opening the packs? I think this is exactly why I haven't bought any potions lately.

As per my understanding, the potions increases the chance of getting Legendary and Gold Foil cards, you can still get them if you don't have potions but with lesser percentage of success.

Even though I am not yet into splinterlands yet although I am looking forward to it. I kind of get a little grasp of what you are trying to say. Looking forward to learning more from your blog. @josediccus

Some extra incentive to players would be really welcomed.

The new players and tight budget ones already doesn't earn Dec on low leagues, and the reward chests mostly give low amounts of credits or potion. Making it even harder to get power to climb ranks.

And you are right, if there are no players there will be no rental market.
