Splinterlands: Spending On Your Excitement.
It has been another exciting season, one which I got another chaos legion pack in my end of Season reward. I played 60% of my games in the modern format of Silver one, it was crazily competitive in the first 7 days of the season, but I climbed steadily and stayed in silver one for the remainder of the season.
I'm back at bronze one, using a lower version of my cards and tiny mana with some crazy competition. It felt like I dropped three places below and I hate having to battle in the bronze League, even if it's bronze one. However, this is what having money can mitigate. I reckon that with an extra 200$ investment, I could be playing in gold league.
Eeven if I'll need More than that to solidify my position, at least getting into gold in both modern and wild, I'll only be dropped into silver III and not have to compete in the bronze League ever again. But, I'm biding my time, taking it easy, and squeezing out value where necessary. I'm also pumping back the small DEC I'm earning daily from rentals into upgrading my deck, although it's not significant as I would want, it's progress.
Last season I ended up playing for 12 days instead of the regular 15 days. My ECR was very low and instead of playing, I took the time to study my deck to determine where I should strengthen. So I did some serious upgrading (last season) opened some packs, bought some cards, and continued upgrading over 12 hours into the new season.
Pack in reward is always exciting
The previous season was also tougher than the subsequent one, one could literally feel that from how players turned up with expensive and upgraded cards/summoners or even different cards which you'll have to accrue some losses in other to know how to eventually play against them. However, this is to beat the competition, if you're not upgrading it affects your chances as well as your prospective reward, irrespective of the league you're playing in.
Splinterlands is all about spending, adapting, and strategy, while the first one is mostly compulsory, if you cannot build a workable formula, it'll be difficult to bring a counter strategy to the game. This means that for every expensive lineup, there would be a cheaper lineup that could counter it, provided you do your research and create a flexible strategy on your budget.
This isn't easy, some players are mostly overwhelmed by the market, overwhelmed by the cost of building a deck that can compete or making the right choice with the limited amount of money they have. One thing I use to tell new players who want to build a deck is to buy at least 100 chaos legion packs and build their deck around it.
The reason is that building a deck from scratch without guidance, can either make a player spend on the deck they mostly lose to rather than finding the right cards, the right element, and abilities. I recently upgraded my water summoner to level 3 and it cost a lot of money, but I did this because I loved playing with water, it was one of the elements where I built a workable strategy.
Opening is even more exciting
There is something about playing water elements, apart from the legendaries, it was quite cheap to build a decent deck, I probably hated dragon and death because the cards were on the high side, but over time I've gotten to understand that since the summoners of death I have countered the earth summoners I mainly competed with, it was easier to build or upgrade the cards I got from my lack to building a better deck.
However, I bought some decent individual cards from the last generation, and surprisingly some of these cards have maintained relevance and value over time.
However, pack opening hasn't been as terrible as it was 3 to 4 weeks ago. I know I was pretty much not pleased with opening them, but I got 3 level-one summoners from opening 6 packs and this is decent in my opinion. I got some common gold cards too which I used to upgrade some of my other cards. At the moment, I have 11 packs left to open and a GFL still eludes me after opening 107 packs already.
I have gotten gold cards of epic, common, and rare so far. I was thinking of hodling the packs, but I think I'll need to open them to keep upgrading my deck. I don't know if I'll buy more CL packs before it's finally burned, but I do not have the resources at the moment.
Interested in some more of my works?

I won't lie, it's been baby steps along the way and I've been very happy to come this far.

Splinterlands is tough no matter which league you are in and it is quite costly to move up. I find that moving up a league without having your cards leveled up might not be the best idea because the penalty for not having maxed-level cards is annoying. I do think you can probably get to gold without too many issues but yea it would cost quite a bit.

Yeah I'm also thinking of the penalty of not having maxed out cards for the gold league, but my intentions firstly for that was never to play in the bronze League again. It's getting tougher out there, by the day
