Art Process

- sketch and line art
What is interesting about this card is that it is half snake and half human. The body is in a human form, while the head and the tail are in snake form. Before jumping to the sketching part, I searched on Pinterest for some references that would suit the card. I wanted a simple post. So I used the prompt like "shaman," or "magician" or any character that has a staff. I noticed that most of the nice poses were AI-generated pictures. Some were bad because of twisted hands of weird angles, hehe. But in that case, it can be corrected in my sketch. So I started the process with a blue colored pen for the sketch. I first position the head of the snake on the center. I then slowly copy the card's details, like the staff and the clothing. On another layer, I used a solid line art brush. I used a vector eraser so that it would be easier to erase overlapping lines.

- base color and initial shading
Moving on to the base color, I used a tool called the tool picker from the default tools in the inventory. This tool can copy the colors from the original card. I then adjusted the colors to match the overall color. On the shading part, I used different pressures of the airbrush. For the first layer, I used a soft pressure in a multiply mode layer. And on another layer clipped on the base layer, I used medium pressure. It was easier to do the shading part when the parts were separated into different layers. In that way, I can control whether to shade or not. After finishing the airbrush shading, I used a cell brush for shading. This shading is for the harder shadows. Now that the shading part is finished, I used an airbrush for the faint glow on the clothing.

- Adding the glows
Adding the glows starts by knowing where the light source is. By knowing the source of light, it is easier to imagine where the light would bounce or the shadows with contrast. So for this art, the source of the light would be on the right-ish part. I used a hard airbrush for the lights on the skin and clothing. I used the same brush for the gradient effect on the feather-like top of the clothing as well as the teeth-like necklace. Here, I already added the tail. I used the same color as the face with the orange and black pattern on the skin.
Final Art

Since this card feels like a mage or a shaman, I wanted to make the background to give a hint of magic, hehe. The details on the main subject is detailed enough, and so, I will just go for a simple background using some special brushes that I downloaded from the asset store of Clip Studio. I used a brush called the magic brush and the magic whip. The prior has little sparkly detail in prism shapes, while the other hand is like wiggly.
I had fun making this fan art! 😁
