Week 361 | My Splinterlands Art Contest Entry | Antoid Platoon
Hope everyone is doing well!
Nothing much to say but the weather, hehe. It keeps raining every afternoon until night. Not complaining, though. I love the cool weather, but too much is not good because of flooding. But anyways, here is my fan art of this card, Antoind Plantoon.
To finish the art, I looked for a leaf brush or some grass brush for the background. I used the blur brush for some dimensions and depths especially on the back. Now, I applied some nuances like the bokeh circles in add glow mode. I like how the color turned out liek cartoonish which is my goal from the very start. Lastly, I used a texture image for the whole canvas.
For this week, I chose Antoid Platoon to do in my art style! 😁
"An Antoid Platoon typically consists of five to seven Fire Ants, each approximately the size of a man's fist. They are well armored and wield shields and spears that, while tiny, provide a formidable defense and offense against the antoid's foes. Operating through a shared hive mind, the Antoid Platoon is employed to defend Ant Miners, other workers, the colony, and its queen. They are also known to become aggressive when invaders encroach upon their homes and surrounding territory."

Art Process
I went to Pinterest to look for some ant pictures. I do not know what this insect's anatomy is. I would say, I often see ant,s but do not bother me to look over their anatomy on the internet. They are small but freaking bite painfully. Yeah, I still remember my keyboard full of ants because of my crumbs, haha.
-base colors
So now moving on to the colors. Colors do matter because they can affect the mood or atmosphere of the whole art. It can shift the moods or how you would like your art to be perceived. For this one, I wanted to be a cartoonish color, which are bright colors like green and red. For the armor, I keep it like shades of gray and purple. In the background, I chose bright colors of green and yellow. I imagine these ants were trooping through some dense forest or dense grass field.
- shading
Now for the rendering part, I know the light source would be coming from the back, so I tried my best to imagine how the light would land and where it would land. I used a cell shading brush for the shadows and for the light coming, I used an airbrush in light and medium pressure. I just used a blend brush for the harsh edges. It took a little time to make the shine of the armor, but I loved the outcome.
