Week 241 | My Splinterlands Art Contest Entry | Radiated Scorcher
I am happy that I was mentioned in the last post of Splinterlands! Woohoo! 🤩 Also noticed that many talented artists are now jumping onto the contest wagon. 🥳 So many cool art and art styles. I am still yet really find what I really like in terms of style but for now I am sticking to the manhwa/anime style, which is a big influence on me growing up. Also, @crimsonowl-art gave a nice tip on picking an art style. She is really good in anime style. Hey, crim, I hope to see an SPL entry for you, whahaha. 😆
In this week’s entry, I chose Radiated Scorcher! 🥳
I am referencing manhwa art style a lot lately, especially in fighting poses. This one is a foreshortening pose. I am not really good at these angles and I struggle a lot with imagining. References are big help, also YouTube tutorials. I bet this is easy for people who took art classes. ☺️
Start with a rough sketch. I am thinking of adding fire element and swirls since it is in a fighting stance. Since it is foreshortening, some parts of the body will appear bigger assuming in front of other parts like the hair and right hand compared to the arms, waist, and left hand.
I did not do much of the golden belt here, instead focused more on the hair and face. The colors are pre-color picked on the original card, then adjusted the saturation. Since the below half of the body is not shown in the original card, I just assume pants and simple shoes.
I am trying a combination of shading, cell shading and soft shading. The cell shading is mostly used in anime style, and short shading is used in general in what I have learned. Also, applying the 1-2-3 method of shading.
Adding those extra details on the hands and arms. The fire was a bit hard to achieve, haha. I used a g-pen here and layered them up. I used the liquify tool to not make the flames stiff.
Final Art
The last parts to add are the glow and details. I made some swirls on the background by using a soft brush and blurting them out. Used a special pen for those particles, alpha lock, and colored them orange and yellow. Added glow on the hands, body, face, and hair.
