Once it was all off of her, June stood tall and craned her head back, letting the deep light of the afternoon bathe her. She cycled up a little mixture of Furblend and Pureskin, shivering a bit as a coolness rippled over her. The dirt and congealed sweat of the past few days vibrated, became dust, and slipped off of her in a translucent stream. The black tangle atop her head shed a similar cloud, became glossy and smart, lengthening out in soft waves down her back and shoulders.

Oooh, thanks for the DEC! Hard to believe we are nearly onto chapter seven. My favorite new part was the below interaction, made me chuckle...

"There was a thundering crash and a scream. Junelight flinched backwards. A bodyguard caught her shoulder and her crystals fuzzed, ready to cycle all the way up. But he said, “Wait wait, see, look,” and there were no more screams, no more explosions.

She took a breath, and mentally worked on keeping her eyes from lighting up. Her heart battered, thumping in time with her crystals. She pulled away from the guard’s grasp, and tried to see what had happened.

The tent was still. Bettine, her expression quiet and uninterested, stood with one arm outstretched, her weight shifted to her back leg. In her hand, the steel blaster. A curl of smoke unwound from its end.

“Sweet depths of Culdur…” Junelight murmured. She’d researched what the blasters might look like, what they might do. None of the records had mentioned the sound."

Even if you’re off the system, we can tell if you’ve passed under the rope, unless you do some serious work to… cut it down. Now, there are several hundreds of our stones in this forest region, most tiny, but that doesn’t really matter. Lots of roping options, you see?

The instigator, now recovered from Frix’s entrance, sauntered over. His crew flanked him. They were young Tel, all of them; the bright red beads in their hair gave them away.

“We,” the boy puffed up, “have a duel!”

“Duel?” said a newcomer from the river. Soon the crossdart marksman would lose his audience.

“Let me see that slinger,” Frix said.

I go back to the interaction between Junelight and the water of the river as one of my favorite new moments:

As the Artwork spun and grew, the current around her arms swirled faster. She asked the water for a path, a passage. Just a quick visit, as she was in a hurry. It was happy to oblige, and hoped there could be more they could do together—the salt of her origins drove a curiosity, and maybe even some excitement.

I won't share the whole thing to save on comment real-estate, but the personality and energy of the water and the way that it interacted with Junelight like a living entity was SO COOL, and I ate up every word of it. Lots of good moments in this series, it's so hard to pick a favorite! !PIZZA !CTP !WINE

My line favorite is:

Callum stopped too, a questioning look on his face. Frix stood, arms crossed, looking out towards the trees to where he figured the Seedwind was. Eventually, folks in the parade noticed the stoppage, and people started to filter back, necks craning and eager conversation buzzing.
