A cloud passed over the moon and the world darkened. She wasn’t walking anymore, but he still felt the rattle of her footsteps. She was kneeling, looking over her shoulder, smiling. There was a light in her eyes, too bright. Reflecting something.

He didn’t ask for what. He was fairly sure she didn’t know herself. Barton watched her go, power walking away with a purpose. She reached the street, flinched as a car rolled by, then crossed and walked away.

Got to be the mysterious conversation between Barton and Gabby during lunch!

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring with this quote that REALLY resonated with me from the last chapter:

It’s, well, this place has got a strange touch to it. The market is one thing, but everything else… it moves too fast, I feel.

I feel that "too fast" movement so deeply in my soul, that I found myself sympathizing with whatever has possessed Gabby. Sure, we have lots of creature comforts now, but at what cost? Would that times were simpler, and we could slow down a bit to just enjoy the simple things in life...
