Am happy to be among the winners

These thoughts danced around, chasing each other like swamp weasels. Once again, his wounds helped to slow down the merry chase. At some point, his mother finished dressing the cuts and made to leave.

Wow! Happy to be one of the winners of some pizza for the previous giveaway :) !LOLZ

Also, I'm glad you enjoyd my comment! Sorry if I didn't answer there, but I delegated to much of my (few) HP and I'm short on RC!

Can you add me to the readlist? I joined the Scholar and Scribe community on Hive and shared this psot on Twitter:

Here's the quote I choose: this time is from Chapter 9 - The Assignement

Frix ran his tongue along the back of his teeth, staying the suicidal urge to fire back with something sarcastic. Instead, he said, “Hobb told me you had something to tell me, Head of Root.”

I found it both funny and true, as many times in my life - mainly when I'm at work - I felt that suicidal urge to say something back to someone... but had to re-think twice what I was going to say and change my answer with something more... appropriate!

this is terrific! So I'm following you now not just for the delightfu reads but once again it seems I'm coming at the tail end of this fantastic Give away! So back to the story (but I do need the StarBits) You have a gift at both Painting the picture of the type of relationship with the characters as well as describing the characters themselves very quickly While focusing on the plot! So My favorite part (so far because there is still apparently lots more to come!) , I'll explain why ; "Frix couldn’t help but wonder what his great uncle would think of the big, bloody ‘T’ under all that moss." the reason why (so far) this is my favorit because after all that transpired and was exchanged between Frix and t, and despite telling him he wasn't gonna do it, The bloody mark he left on Frix seemed to be symbolic in that seems to be a turning point In that it was a show of respect For Frix. provided it's not really a spoiler would you tell me if I'm Not way off base?

I'm coming at the tail end of this fantastic Give away!

This one actually just started! I try to get one in each week, and Mondays are currently my start day haha. So lots of time to enter.

it was a show of respect For Frix. provided it's not really a spoiler would you tell me if I'm Not way off base?

Not a spoiler, thank you for asking though!

In this case, it's not much more than Dreff being rude. Perhaps he's annoyed at how much attention Frix receives from Mossa, perhaps he just has a chip on his shoulder. Dreff is a salty and aggressive person and carving a 'T' for 'Tel' is his way of expressing dominance. Thematically, the story revolves around Family (see: the title), so Frix being branded apart from his own family has some subtle symbolism involved.

Frix just got fraxed then, I have a sneaking suspicion that dreff unknowingly excecuted some 'prevengeance'
With his unsportsmanlike conduct, haha!

Well look forward to continuing this journey as it is written. (I dont know if your familiar with 'The Never Ending Story, but now
I kind of feel like I'm having a similar experience, lol! And fingers crossed for the Starbjts which will immediately be redeemed for the 12 pack special!

Frix swallowed again, remembering the red haze. Floating and seeing. It had felt powerful. It had felt wonderful. Her lips felt… He blinked. “I don’t remember, really.”

Count me in! Ty 🙏

I really appreciate the reward

“I don’t like the phrase,” said Vik, “but yes, that’s the popular term. There are said to be hundreds of thousands of them spread out through the Callipsus. They bunch up in triadic groups. Most of the time, and in the past, they leave Roythans alone and we leave them alone. There’s more than enough wood to go around, you know? But every now and then you’ll get an ambitious bunch that want to swipe some furniture, or basic tools, sometimes they raid food stores in the more remote villages…”

“Look, I’ll carve a ‘B’ out of it if it appeases you,” said Frix. “I came all the way out here, you can’t tell me what the assignment is?”
Ottrah yanked out one of his shortsharps and threw it at Frix. It buried itself in the dirt between his crossed ankles. Frix bent and plucked it out, eying the thick, sharp blade. His idea had sounded good when it was leaving his mouth. Now he wasn’t so keen. He swallowed once, and met his uncle’s eyes, trying to see if he was serious.
“Hesitation. You carry on with Tel badge. Suits you.” Ottrah held open his palm. Frix tossed the weapon back, cheeks flaring.

I loved this interaction between Frix and Ottrah. 1) Ottrah is an interesting character with a fascinating dialect all by himself, 2) it was funny to see Frix's youthful impetuousness confronted by Ottrah's bluntness.

You're killing it with this story, man, keep up the amazing work! !PIZZA !WINE !CTP !HBIT

Thank you my man! I do enjoy writing dialect into dialogue, though it does run the risk of being distracting (and spellcheck haaaates it). Glad you enjoyed it :)

lol, I know the feeling of fighting with spellcheck. it really hates the way I write Turner and Doctor Jean in THI, LOL! I really did, thank you for writing it!

For a moment, it looked as if Ottrah might whack him about the head. But then he turned his stare to the little fire in the centre of the room. “Was going to have you be eyes and ears. For Bit family. But now you branded Tel.”

As a naturally sarcastic person, I know the struggle. LOL!

I didn't know about the read list but I would like to be added!

I'll choose the reaction to Ottrah's actions after Frix said "I'll carve a B out of it!" 😊

His idea had sounded good when it was leaving his mouth. Now he wasn’t so keen. He swallowed once, and met his uncle’s eyes, trying to see if he was serious.

I just finished Ch.2 part 3. really liked the action and pace of this part, I had a clear visualization of the scene.

Junelight braced, looking at Ottrah but keeping her aspectral attention floating near Bettine, ready for another explosion. Ottrah didn’t seem to share the concern, and came closer to June.

Frix let his eyes wander to the redness in the fire. The wavy heat lines boiling out had a similar essence to what he had felt. “Maybe it’s more like firelight…” he said.

You are so talented, man! Always giving out great work 🔥

His parents seemed less concerned about his new tattoo than the Head of Root, though if he was being honest he didn’t draw much attention to it. They were more interested in his latest assignment—a journey to go learn more about his supernatural encounter.

WOW thanks for the prize! =)
here is my quote

“Yes, good. There is expert on making memory in southern triadic group. Tomorrow you travel to seek Head of Spark of Min-sog-say, two weeks by cart along riverside trails. You go, you learn, you come back to me.”
“Two weeks…?” That meant a month or more away. No ranging. No Mossa. No anything.

It was surprising such a long travel lol

I got a good chuckle from this line...

“She expresses said personality mainly through flatulence!” Mill grinned at Frix.

Enjoying the story progressing, thanks for sharing.

This is my favorite part.

Frix rubbed at his chest, cringing as his wounds complained. Mill looked over and said, “Think that hurts? Try living with this old thing!” He gave his bum leg a little squeeze and exaggerated a wince.

My line favorite:

Mill was actually the one who woke him up—much later in the morning than Frix had hoped. The sun was already up, pushing flat light through a gray sky. Frix tried not to seem rushed as they packed up and made to leave, but the anticipation gnawed at him.

Greetings, dear friend, as always your wonderful words catch the reader from the first line, this weekend I am catching up with the chapters pending to read due to my work, and I am already enjoying each one of them with a nice cup of coffee. The line I like where I am reading at the moment is this one: "Listening to his father tell a lurid story about the breeders in the Min-sog-say triad" (The Childseeker's War • Chapter 9: The Assignment (pt. 2))
