More Than Just An Executor, Thanalorian Blade Is A Defender Too
We all hear these talks about how amazing Thanalorian Blade when it comes to decimating enemy lines. What we forget to point out is, Thanalorian Blade has another ability aside from Execute, Trample and Opportunity. And this ability is useful for defending allies at the back. This is no other than Lookout ability. In this post, we will feature Thanalorian Blade as a backline unit capable of minimizing enemy damage to the back tank.

Lookout Ability

Lookout grants damage reduction of -1 to adjacent units from Sneak, Snip and Opportunity attackers. It also reduces damage from Ambush attacks by 50%. The monsters with the Lookout ability, unfortunately, is not protected from these attacks. This makes Thanalorian Blade a good card to place in between two important units - the low health high damaging unit and the back tank. When the adjacent unit died, the new adjacent one will get the damage reduction. So it is advisable to plan the placement of Thanalorian Blade to maximize its protection. You can also place untis that will be targeted by Snipe adjacent to it so they can last longer. If you are thinking of using two Lookout monsters and place them adjacent to an important card, this wont stack. Lookout doesn't stack with other Lookouts, Shield and Void.

With this in mind, Thanalorian Blade synergizes with Taunt monsters by placing it in front or at the back.

Other Opportunity monsters can also be paired with Thanalorian Blade to decimate low-health monsters.

Thanalorian Blade's Defense In Action

Here is how to use Thanalorian Blade for a defensive and sustainable back line. In Modern, Thanalorian Blade can be used with Mycelic Slipspawn to protect it from Sneak damage. In this case, only if the attacker has the abilities Sneak, Opportunity and Snipe that the damage will be reduced. Normal attacks will inflict normal not reduced damage.
