Defying Gravity: Wingerbreaker Mechanics

If there is one ability that would break common sense, that would be the Wingbreak ability. At first the mechanic of this ability is simple, it will always target Flying monsters. But there is the word 'always' that makes it seem broken. Let's discuss that.

Wingbreak Ignores The Enemy In Front Of It

According to Splinterlands support page, Wingbreak always targets enemy units with Flying first regardless of abilities or rulesets. It also inflicts +2 damage to the Flying monsters. The mechanics seem simple at first but when you actually use it. It would seem broken. For one, the Wingbreak monster will target the first flying unit even if it is in the first position.

Yes it sounds crazy knowing that any monster that is in the first position will normally target the enemy in front of it. But for Wingbreakers, it will ignore the one in front of it if there is a flyer roaming somewhere in the battlefield.

Camouflage? What's That?

Wingbreak units can target Camouflage units as long as they are flying. As the mechanics state, no ability can hide flying units from the devastation of Wingbreak ability. As of this writing, there are no flying units with Camouflage yet, but if they have, it's not safe from Wingbreak.

My Wings Broke, Why Still Targetting Me?

A pair of snared wings doesn't make a Flying unit exempted from Wingbreak abiliyt. Snared flying units would still be a target since they used to boast that they are the king of the skies.

Your Taunts Won't Work On Me

Taunt monsters can't lure in Wingbreak attention. So before using your trusted Mycelic Slipspawn, make sure you don't have any flyers around or else it will be shot to oblivion.

Closing

When there are no flying units around, Wingbreak will follow the normal rules of targeting enemies. Overall, this is not a broken ability. It is just unique on its mechanics and won't take so much learning curve to understand how it works.
