If there’s one thing I’ve learned from playing Splinterlands, it’s that certain battle rules can turn a seemingly easy match into an absolute nightmare. And two of those rules that can make you lose are:
The combination of Briar Patch and Counterspell.
But don’t worry, because today I’m going to share a composition that will give you the upper hand and make your opponents regret clicking on Battle.
Understanding the Rules
Before you start building your team, it’s essential to understand how these rules work and why they can be so problematic if you’re not prepared.

If these two rules appear together, get ready for a battle where any mistake in monster selection can be costly.

How do you win without dealing free damage to your enemy? The answer lies in the composition I’m about to show you.
Interesting Compositions
The key to winning under these conditions is using a balanced team that can deal damage without self-destructing. For this, I recommend three essential creatures for any composition: Pelacor Conjurer, Pelacor Arbalest, and Venari Crystalsmith.
Of course, this depends on the mana limit. For high-mana battles, this team may not be suitable due to its durability versus health ratio.
Pelacor Conjurer is a brilliant choice for a tank/frontline in these battle rules.
Why?
First, he has no attack, so he eliminates any risk of reflected damage. Plus, he has Counterspell, which reflects any magic attack back to the attacker. Best of all, he also has Divine Shield, meaning he can ignore the first attack received.
Another important factor is that he has Flying, which gives him an extra chance to dodge attacks.
So, when your opponent tries to hit you, there’s a good chance they’ll miss. In short, he’s a cheap, efficient tank built for these rules.
If melee attacks are punished by Thorns and magic attacks are punished by Magic Reflect, what’s left?
Ranged attacks, of course.
And no one does it better than Pelacor Arbalest. He has Double Strike, meaning he attacks twice per round, doubling his damage output.
Since he is a ranged monster, he doesn’t take damage from Thorns and can cause serious damage to the enemy team without retaliation. His Flying ability also helps increase his survival by allowing him to dodge physical attacks.
No composition is complete without support, and that’s where Venari Crystalsmith comes in.
Besides being a ranged attacker (meaning she doesn’t suffer from Thorns or Magic Reflect), she brings something essential for your team’s survival: the Tank Heal ability.
With this ability, Venari Crystalsmith can keep your Pelacor Conjurer alive for much longer, ensuring he continues absorbing damage and reflecting magic attacks.
In long matches, this healing can make all the difference between victory and defeat.
Strategy in Practice
With this composition, your team will focus on absorbing damage without suffering retaliation while returning as much damage as possible. Pelacor Conjurer will hold the frontline, reflecting magic attacks and dodging what he can. Pelacor Arbalest will ensure the enemy is quickly taken down, while Venari Crystalsmith keeps everyone alive.

If you want to boost this strategy even further, look for summoners that increase your team’s health or reduce incoming damage.
I personally use this one to increase the attack power of my ranged units.
That way, you ensure your team lasts long enough to secure victory.
