Trialling a new strategy
Whilst I have been playing Splinterlands, I have mostly been looking at owning my assets and at times I have sacrificed Hive Power or Hive rewards in the past. So moving forward, I would like to try something different with more of a long term mind set.
I'll be taking any curation rewards moving forward in Hive Power only to rectify my position and show my commitment to Hive as a platform. I hope by doing so I can prove that I am here for the long term. Seeing the post by Azircon was quite humbling to see that I have received a substantial amount of rewards on this platform.
Normally I would start with a statement regarding how awesome a strategy is or how I have learned something new but given how important I feel it is to demonstrate my commitment to the above I wanted to begin with this.
Feeling inspired by the actions of Bulldog on X and their recent videos, I am going to try and incorporate that strategy of renting a specific amount of SPS to boost my earnings and then utilise that DEC to build my account from there.
So what does this strategy mean?
In short there are two parts to the strategy:
- Build my Hive account to ensure that I am seen less as an extractor and more of an investor.
- Rent SPS to my highest recent level (Gold 2) so around 60k SPS rental
- Convert SPS to dec to cover my rental expenses
- Once I have covered my rental expenses plus around 25% extra, I will be using the remaining SPS rental days to build my SPS position further.
I hope that this strategy will nearly double my SPS earnings, allowing me to continue to build for the long term but also allow me some liquid earnings to rent or begin to buy newer cards ready for the new Modern leagues.
I estimate that I will need around 420 DEC to cover the rentals. Therefore, excluding brawls, I am currently bringing in around 15-30 SPS per day if I play all of my battles. By doubling my SPS earned to around 2.5-3 SPS per win, I should be able to hit my higher averages on a bad day, winning around 10 battles and hoping to hit 15 wins taking me somewhere in the region of 45 SPS a day.
As things stand, I am not including Brawls but they bring in somewhere in the region of 12-22SPS per brawl.
At the moment, I am formulating this strategy and identifying how much DEC I need and calculating my rentals. To do this I am considering my regular rental cards. Which cards do I need to support my gameplay in order to reach these figures?
Overall, I need the following as a bare minimum and where possible I'll attempt to grab some Gold Foil cards to add additional % to my win bonuses.
Tarsa
Kelya Frendul
Possibilus
this will allow me to use the Shatter and Smash approach as detailed in my previous blog.
Obsidian
Thaddius Brood
General Sloan
Mycelic Slipspawn
Forcefield should counter those high damage cards reducing any high damage back down to 1 point.
Venari Wavesmith
With that little boost of magic damage, I should be better equipped to overcome a little more anti magic in those magic only battles. A little extra armour is always helpful too right?
Dr Blight
I am looking at bolstering my Little League lineup as well as neutral cards by adding this little promo. The extra 10% boost is also welcome here.
Arkemis the Bear
Similar to Dr Blight, there is a mosnter of a card here hidden in the promo and the Halfing ability is always welcome, especially in melee match ups. With it being neutral there is a good chance it will get its turn.
Regal Peryton
Really important to gain the additional magic damage especially with such a fast magic card. It seems ironic to me that the first deck I built out to 'Silver level' back in the day is most neglected and this card recognises that.
Forgotten One
Retaliate, is just beastly and in a melee battle it gives utility to the backline as needed.
Grum Flameblade
Who doesn't want a tanky fire card with Void?
Magi of Chaos
Increased magic potential for my neutral deck and with more than 1 damage for magic, it has the potential to beat out the Immortallis deck challenges I find with anti magic.
Nerissa Tridawn
Increasing magic damage is always good and this epic card is too good to miss right now as I look to round out my Water deck.
With the cards above, I aim to supplement my fairly basic deck and utilise the better ability thresholds of various cards to give me the best opportunities to move forward. I have already acquired all of the start cards to ensure that I do not lose any reward shares. So now it is all about putting cards together in some semblance of order to find a victory.
Next Steps:
- Identify average rental costs of SPS & Cards for the strategy
- Build up my energy so that I am ready make the most of the first few days of rental.
- Post the next 10 curation challenges as 100% Power up Hive only and review my position once that has been completed.
