Donating to your guild buildings.. the best and worst decision in the game.
I'm lucky enough to be in an awesome guild. I do my best to help out and donate what little I can and participate often. If it wasn't for my guild I doubt I would still even be battling in the game.
We have some truly awesome players. I could mention most of the guild and say good things about them but @saffisara is a standout. She's generous, kind, playful, and just makes the guild a great place to be. I will not forget her giving me my first gold card (a gelatinous cube).
In addition to being generous to fellow guild members she also donates regularly to guild buildings as you can see from today's donation. 1600 DEC to the Barracks
But many other guild members are pretty generous in giving to the guild as well. Many of our members have donated hundreds if not thousands of dollars to the guild and those donations mean that all guild members get some awesome perks in addition to just being part of a team.
- Discount on purchases
- DEC bonus on wins
- Merit points to get Gladius cards
are the ones that comes quickly to mind.
So why do I say that donating could be the worst decision in the game?
First:
If someone ever leaves the guild or gets booted from the guild their entire donation gives them no benefit. It is just money that is gone. From an investment point of view ANY investment that you don't get the keep when you leave is a bad investment.
Second:
The other reason I hate donating to buildings is best shown by this building:
The guild has donated 100,000 DEC to the building but we are waiting to have enough crowns to upgrade it.
That's $1000 dollars worth of DEC that is sitting there doing absolutely nothing!
If the guild had a way of holding those DEC and get SPS airdrop from it that would be about 12 SPS daily of 0.5% a day. Using the rule of 72 that means :
In 5 months the guild would have 200,000 DEC if the leader held the DEC instead of having it sit in the building!
Now if any reader wanted to check my story you would find that @hiveabbyftp and my guild do not match up to the power ratings I've referenced. @hiveabbyftp and The Merchant Guild is an alternate account where I'm proposing a system to address the two deficiencies I see in the current guild system:
Those deficiencies being :
- You get no value if you leave the guild
- Your donations get burnt and do nothing once put into a building.
What am I implementing?
Instead of donating to a guild building and having your DEC gone, I've created a GUILD coin which members buy and hold as their donation to the guild.
Instead of asking members to donate a random amount of DEC (say 50 DEC) to a building weekly I ask that they purchase 50 GUILD from the hive-engine each week. As guild leader I then hold the DEC, collect the airdrop and put compound interest to work. Once a building can be fully upgraded it gets done all at once to benefit the guild but until then our donations grow faster so we can upgrade more quickly.
Sure it requires putting faith in your guild leader not to take the money and run. However, guild donations are lost money anyways so little difference there.
Also by purchasing a GUILD coin the guild members have a digital asset they can take with them if ever they progress to a stronger guild. They get something in return for their donation. Of course that something is only as valuable as the health of the guild they are in and may become worthless. However, if the guild thrives then liquidity of the GUILD coin can be valuable to a player even after they leave the guild or even leave the game.
To all fellow guild members in The Merchants Guild.
- Guild dues are not to be donated to buildings as I think that's a terrible waste
- Purchase GUILD token from the market instead. All proceeds will be invested to upgrade our buildings
- If you move on hold or sell the GUILD tokens and a thank you in advance for trying my system out :)
Happy hunting everyone!
