Why are fifty word stories so important?

If you have ever wanted to sharpen your writing skills, I have never found anything that compares to writing fifty word stories, because they throw you right into the editing process: forcing you to cut everything that isn’t necessary and to learn and use new words that convey much more information.

The biggest benefit that I have noticed, is that after writing some of these, when I go on to write a real story, those stories tend to just flow out of me and I no longer get stuck, wondering: “How am I going to write this?” Although, I’m not trying to pretend to be an expert on writing and my first drafts are still just that: first drafts, that I wouldn’t want others to see.

I really miss @miniature-tiger’s fifty word story prompts and I believe that they were very good for the community, so I’ve decided to bring them back to Hive.

...And what better way than to offer a Hive Punk to the winner?


Rules

  • Use “Time” as your theme
  • Write a story using only 50 words

How to Win

The goal should be to to write the biggest story that you can in under 50 words, this usually takes many edits to find ways to add or imply more information to the story. So try to convey as much information as you can.

Below is a fifty word story that I wrote, using, “Time” as my theme.


The Heist

I knew the raid was imminent when hearing the hostages cry out: “We’re in here!”

So I quickly squeezed my modded portal gun as the swat-team busted in shooting. Blood and bones erupted from my chest while I was hurled into the future clutching the world’s last ounce of silver.

Sounds interesting, I think writing in #freewriters community prompt improved my 50 word prompt hope to give it a shot.
A second hive punk would do.

I haven't participated in any freewriting in a while now, which is a shame because sometimes I feel like I need an excuse to start writing, like if I don't have something big to talk about then I'm just wasting people's time. But I love writing, so maybe freewriting prompts would be a good thing for me to get involved in.

So what are your goals for punks?
How many do you want to acquire and have you heard Marky talking about his new secret project for punks? Atm, it's all open for speculation, so I'm really excited to see what he has come up with.

Ah, I'm just holding on to the punks, just for the sakes I'm in the NFTs game.
Since I won tis punk it's just been on my profile, I guess time would tell.

I've only been into leofinance, trying to be better in creating content, no freewriting in a while.

I want as much punk as I can get my hands on unlike you and @emerlin.
Marky is doing a lot since he launched the hive punk program, I haven't heard of his new secret project.
I guess that's the reason why it's called "secret" project, lol.

We were all having a very good time. The weather was perfect. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, the birds were chirping. We never expected it to end so suddenly. We never heard a warning siren. Suddenly everything was gone. It was the end of Time. The End.

I think it's better for you to make this into an actual post, because you are denying many people the opportunity to read this and you're denying yourself an opportunity to pick up new followers and rewards.

But I'm not a stickler for rules, so if you decide to keep your story as a comment, I will count this comment as an entry. This is going to be a tough act to follow and I do wish that many people will be able to read it.

The weird thing is, I actually posted an earlier draft of this story, about four years ago, on some other whaling site lol - The basic premise is the same, but I'm much happier with the way this version turned out, I was actually shocked at how poorly written the first version was.
