Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!
Another week, another Social Media Challenge, I will keep doing battles featuring the new cards in these for a while so this time around, I will feature a battle with what has quickly become one of my favorite Conclave Arcana cards, namely Oridum Graybrow.
Now before we get into the stats discussion of Oridum Graybrow, let's have a sneak peek into his LORE.
So, Oridum is heading an expedition to search for the Secret of Praetoria in the name of the Conclave. This kind of reminds me of some real life expeditions searching for the Holy Grail in the first half of the 20th century.
Alright, we've got some idea of who Oridum Graybrow is, after glancing at his lore. Let us have a look at his stats and abilities at different key levels now.
Oridum Graybrow is a 7-mana Legendary Human with Melee Attack. AT level 1 he's got 3 Melee Attack, 4 Speed, 6 Armor, and 4 HP. He also starts with the Thorns ability. At level 2 he gains an extra attack for a total of 4 as well as his second ability and a brand new one - Resurgence
. Resurgence is definitely a pretty interesting ability which does look like it will be impactful for at least a few new types of emerging strategies. At level 3 he gains one more HP point for a total of 5. He also gains 2 more abilities - Piercing and Magic Reflect. Finally at level 4 he has 4 Melee Attack, 4 Speed, 6 Amor and 5 HP. He also gains Spite as a 5th ability. So, here's one more new unit with Heloise's Spite ability. Oridum will definitely cause a lot of pain to his attackers with Resurgence + Piercing + Spite. A solid new addition to the Fire line-up.

- The line-up of the Battle and the Ruleset:
There are 3 rulesets in this battle - Beefcakes (you can only summon units with 5 or more health), Silenced Summoners (Archons give no stat buffs or debuffs and neither grant nor use abilities), High Five (you can summon a maximum of 5 units). The mana budget is 28 which is a below average amount of mana, so the units have to be chosen carefully. The available Elements are Fire, Life, Death and Dragon. Since Silenced Summoners is in play, the be way to approach is to go with the cheapest and most versatile Archon for the occasion which is Dolfar Darflak. Even though he's silenced, he can still summon units from both Fire and Death elements as he's a dual-element Archon.
The main tank in this battle is the protagonist of this short write-up - Oridum. I have made sure to make him a bit more sturdy by the addition of the unit in the off-tank spot.
In the off-tank spot I have placed the first voucher promo card to ever be released - the Mana Warden. Apart from being a Dwarf (which now actually matters thanks to the changes brought by CA), he has the following abilities: Shield Ward (at the start of battle, the unit in front of this unit gains Shield), Impede (-1 to target's speed after each successful attack), Piercing (damage in excess of the target's armor is applied to health). He cannot use two of his abilities until he gets to the tank spot in this battle as there're no Reach ruleset or units in front of him but that does not matter as I have said, his purpose is to provide Shield to Oridum.
The 3rd spot is for another new CA card - a gnome - Filthy Scavenger. He's a relatively cheap card with a fair amount of Melee attack and an interesting abilities kit. He has the following abilities - Opportunity (targets the enemy unit with the least health), Bloodline Tribute (when this unit dies, allied units of the same bloodline as this unit get +1 to armor, health, and speed, and +1 power for each shared attack type), Redemption (when defeated, deals 1 physical damage to all enemy units) and Ambush (takes an extra turn prior to the first round of battle).
In the 4th spot I've got yet another new card from the CA set - a dwarf - the Inept Healer. He's got an outstanding kit for his cost of 3 mana - Magic Reflect (returns 50% of damage to attacker (rounded up) when hit by a magic attack), Corrupted Healing (each round, restore 70% of max health (rounded down) to other allied units. Each time a unit is healed, its max health is reduced by 1), Phase (magic attacks have the same chance to miss as physical attacks) and Void (50% less damage (rounded up) from magic attacks or 0 damage from magic attacks of 1 power).
5th in the line-up is one of the Rebellion airdrops and the Grim Bardun Smith killer (and all no-attack Monsters in general). She has a new ability - Charge (The Monsters will use Melee Attacks from any position and will target the Enemy Monsters in the first position). Bear in mind that just as other abilities, it is affected by Taunt, so that's one way to keep your GBS, etc. safe. Her other abilities are Piercing (If Melee or Ranged attack damage is in excess of the target's Armor, the remainder will damage the target's Health), Oppress (Does double damage when attacking an enemy that has no attacks) and Trample (When a Monster with Trample hits and kills its target, it will perform another attack on the next Monster on the enemy Team) (at level 4). She can single-handedly wipe the whole Enemy team in certain situations.
It is time for a quick round by round analysis:
- The Archon I am going with for the battle is, as I have already mentioned is Dolfar Darflak. He doesn't have any abilities in general apart from being a dual-element Archon but Silenced Summoners is in play anyway so abilities do not matter at all. My opponent has also chosen a 3-mana, dual-element Archon.
- After 1 round of exchanging blows my opponent has lost his Silverblade Fighter. Oridum is till hanging in there on my side.
- Round 3 - all that's left for me is to finish off the remaining enemy units. This was a pretty fast and a very favorable battle for me.
- Victory!
Oridum Graybrow is a Legendary card you should not be sleeping on. He is currently being traded at $7.20 per bcx and I think that this price for him is actually a steal.
