Will a Conclave Arcana Card Be My Most Valuable Splinterlands Card Ever?
I know, I know... There is a difference between price and value. And boy, don't we know that? 🤣
And there are different ways one can see value in a game like Splinterlands. If we are talking about one card, it can be because of its usefulness. But yet again, what kind of usefulness? Because it can be useful for you in battles (by itself or with synergies), or on land, or in conflicts, or in survival mode as a variation of battles, or in future game play. Or it can rent very well, usually in connection to its usefulness. Or, as a collector, you really appreciate it. It can be for sentimental reasons, remembering what you had to go through to get it, or how much it helped you over time, or maybe because it's one of the rarer ones that now exist in few numbers, or because you love the art. It can be any number of reasons.
At a given moment in time value can be the price people are willing to pay for it. And sometimes, people are willing to pay a lot for one card.
In Splinterlands, land was and is my type of asset that at one point had the highest price. Quite incredible, to be honest! Cards - I didn't have something extremely rare that people would fight for, especially since I've built regular foil sets, rather than GF ones.
But... in 2021, when everything went crazy, I think one or two of my cards would have sold at over 3k dollars (I don't remember the exact amount). While I don't remember the exact highest amount, I do remember it was Lord of Darkness at max level, which back then was quite meta (still). Maybe the Kitty was close by, but I only have it at level 3, not maxed out.
Sad to see Lord of Darkness at under 13$ today... from over 3000$ back then (I wouldn't sell mine for 10x this price given its value on land, but on the other hand I didn't sell it at ATH, which was a mistake):
If we understand value in terms of price, it wouldn't be difficult for a new Conclave Arcana to rise on top. The card with my highest price on the market currently doesn't go beyond 65$, so... pretty easy.
Regarding usefulness, it depends. If I build some to max level at some point or strike black gold with black foil, chances are... very high that it will lean heavily toward the new set, Conclave Arcana, especially if I pull a BF.
Art is definitely better on the newer sets. It remains the sentimental value or maybe if I hold a card that is now rarer in print (unlikely, based on the market prices).
It remains, of course, the question what will happen to the price of the new cards on the long term. Splinterlands did come out with a few sinks for large collections and old cards, but still, the prime time for a set continues to be while it is in the Modern format, which normally is for about two years, maybe a little more, based on the recent schedule which seems rather fixed.
Interestingly, with something like land entering the spotlight of investors, old cards with a higher PP multiplicator may be considered cheap now. But who knows?
With that in mind...
What Will I Do For Conclave Arcana?
Well... we've had some nice short term profits from SPS and the presale isn't here yet!
Therefore, I will use some of them to buy into the presale. My focus in the presale is not to buid the set, but to hunt for black foils. If I get one, I'll be happy. If I get more than one... nah... let's not dream with my eyes open. 🤣
If I pull a black foil, I will almost surely build the Conclave Arcana regular set relatively quickly. If not, I haven't decided yet. If I will build it, it will be... slooowly.

I remember oshanuss sold for 60$ level 1, it was a must have for meta...what a days those were
Yep! Let's not talk about Chaos Legion. That's blasphemy, lol.
That's like a -200% or something and yeah it's saddening. 2021 was the peak of some great price. It's funny that this card is not even a GF because most of those GF cards sold for over 50k back then. If we can even get 40% of what we had in 2021 in a few months time, I'll consider it a huge success.
Unfortunately we're tilted to measure value in terms of money. What people wants the most easily skyrockets in price
What a sell price at the moment in time doesn't capture is what benefits would the card continue to bring if you kept it instead of selling. But at some point, it's much better to sell, something I didn't do quite right in 2021, and if they are honest, many didn't. As there are times when it's much better to buy.
I just buy a few packs first. It might be cheaper on the secondary market. Then get whichever cards i need !
Sounds like a plan! 😀

Thanks.
That’s crypto for us. I’m very sure you had other hopes and that’s why you didn’t sell then. We make these mistakes every now and then no matter how well we know it might go south. Good thing is the card still has other important uses.
Yes, I liked its utility, and still do, but overall, at that price, it was a mistake for not selling. While I knew bear market was coming, it still felt far away, and it always does during the hype.
Yeah. It happens. There are times when you just want to hold onto even the most uncertain things.

I guess the gambling is there. Are you planning on going for the alchemy packs as they are guaranteed to have a gold foil or are you taking a gamble at the standard packs?
I'll try my luck on the alchemy packs as they are the most cost effective way to find a black foil. Theoretically. We'll see if RNG agrees.
