Down the Rabbit Hole...

Two important releases for Hive gaming happened yesterday.

MoonKart

In this case, it's one stage of the release, pack opening. The game was already playable with a default kart and driver and no additional add-ons. Now, with card opening, one could use their own cards.

I only opened 1 pack so far and I think I got lucky (although I'm not sure, I wouldn't say by the stats). But I pulled a Legendary driver and that is encouraging.

I played a few laps with the default driver (Aero) and one lap with the legendary driver (Hammer), and despite being slower than Aero (+2 to Speed instead of +3), its better handling (+3 instead of +2) made me a couple of seconds faster per lap.

I like racers, and I expect to play it occasionally, even for fun and little rewards.

I wanted to try multiplayer too, but seemed like I was the only one wanting to play... Either that or multiplayer doesn't work yet.

SoulKeep

SoulKeep was also launched yesterday. I was waiting for this game and so far I tried the single-player maps. There are 5 standard ones, and then others follow, maybe randomized? I haven't played any of the maps after the 5 standard ones.

The last map gave me some trouble and it took me a while to complete it after I started using the traps more efficiently.

This is a screenshot from the last wave of the last map. I lost this one, but I figured out what I did wrong and finished the map at the next attempt.

This one is a rabbit hole for me, lol. I could probably waste hours playing this one (and I did).

I haven't played tournaments yet... Maybe tomorrow I'll give them a try.

Looks like we'll have some fun games to play on Hive of different types we haven't had before, and closer to what you'd find in Web 2, so maybe easier to bring over some fresh blood.

What’s the cheapest amount of money I can start any of the games with?

You can play SoulKeep for free, but you need a Splinterlands account (it is launched from Splinterlands). Try logging in to Splinterlands with your Hive account, and then clicking on the SoulKeep image at the top menu to start the game. To earn rewards in SoulKeep, you'd need to buy entries to tournaments.

I was familiar with the Soulkeep release, but I didn't know about moonkart. How's the earning in moonkart? I haven't heard much from it after it was initially announced. For Soulkeep, there seems to be an ongoing issue with the SPS rewards.

On MoonKarts, I'm not sure about rewards. Multiplayer didn't work for me (where rewards are or will be). It either doesn't work yet or there is a games liquidity issue.

For SoulKeep, it seems there are some discussions about SPS rewards. Personally, I'd play the game without SPS rewards too. I like it. On the other hand, I don't want to go too deep through the rabbit hole.😅

I knew about Soulkeep but I don't think I have heard about Moonkart. It's good to see the games come out here on Hive though.

(Edited)

but I don't think I have heard about Moonkart

I wrote about it. It's the first game Invennium launched on Arcade Colony, the platform spawned from Genesis League Sports, with a different focus.

The problem I may have is that when I want to start playing, how do I know what to do?
Is there usually a tutorial for beginners?

For which game? For MoonKarts, it's easy. You just try to reach the end ASAP while collecting some rewards (fictive for single player) on the way. Consider single player a training mode before multiplayer, if or when it'll work. You don't need cards to play with the defaults.

For SoulKeep, click Battle. you will go through a tutorial. You don't need any cards for that.

Oh wow bro, getting that Legendary driver in MoonKart must have been exciting. SoulKeep seems challenging but rewarding, especially with those strategic traps. Enjoy exploring both games brother. !BEER

I don't think legendary cards make as much difference as in Splinterlands.

Yep, judging by SoulKeep, seems like I really like the TD genre.

Enjoy exploring both games

I'll have to think about it and do the serious stuff first, or else I might waste precious time on them.

Splinterlands is affiliated with soulkeep, but why do we have a different gaming interface altogether here?

They are practically different games. Other than the common Web 3 interface and using Splinterlands as a way to launch the game, and probably Splinterlands servers to run it, they are different. Splinterlands company receives part of the revenues from Double Coconut for this deal.

I'm playing around a bit with Soulkeep but I'm not sure if I will really get into Moonkarts. In the end, time remains the main limiting factor. It's good to see that the time requirement of Soulkeep is far lower compared to Splinterlands.

It would be nice if these games brought some attention back to the Hive Blockchain which nobody ever talked about outside of hive itself.

Hmm! Depends on how quickly you find a solution to stop the hordes, lol. It seems less obvious at higher level maps. Have you started playing League 2 yet?

I think both games have the potential to attract players who haven't been in crypto before. But we will see how that materializes.

I'm stuck as I don't have enough Fiend Souls yet to get to League 2, so I'm forced to burn DEC to play more in the tournament.

Sorry to hear that. Can't you still play in League 1? Or once completed there's no going back? It looks like there isn't for me, but I haven't run into this limitation yet. I'm just starting playing again after completing the first 5 maps yesterday though.
