Weekly HSBI Giveaway for the Splinterlands Community #22
Happy Monday everyone and welcome to the my weekly HSBI giveaway for the Splinterlands community!
Last week was packed with news about Splinterlands. First and foremost was the release of the Frontier game mode, in which only Foundation cards can be played, making it more suitable for beginners. Overall, I think this mode is very well done, but I do have a few minor concerns. If you want to read more about Frontier and my opinion, you can do so in my blog, which I wrote. Then there was some smaller, but not insignificant news. In the future, probably starting tomorrow, cards that are eliminated in Survival mode will only have a cooldown for Survival mode and not for all other modes. According to the motto “what happens in Survival stays in Survival”. I think the change is okay, but I can also imagine that players with a large collection might not like the change so much. There was also a change regarding tournaments. From now on, players with multiple accounts will only be allowed to participate in a tournament with one account, which is intended to prevent scholars with multiple accounts from playing in the same tournament. Another good change, in my opinion. And last but not least, the Gold Foil Arcane Pickle Draw event recently started and will run for about 50 days.
Your Answers to the last Question:
Last week's question was "Which is your favorite legendary card?". This time 9 people took part and answered the question. Let's have a look at some of your answers.
My favorite Legendary card right now is Lorkus due to its playability in most rulesets.
I completely agree with you, and that's why I bought Lorkus and chose it over Eternal Tofu. Lorkus is incredibly versatile and, of course, very powerful. An absolute must-have in the current Modern meta.
My favorite legendary card is the classic Djinn Oshannus
Oh yes, Djinn Oshannus is a classic from the Chaos Legion expansion. If I remember correctly, it was actually the first legendary card I ever owned. It has great health and speed stats, is a fantastic magic attack counter, and the card itself can deal quite a bit of damage. This card was and still is very popular, especially among beginners. Djinn Oshannus is in my top 3 legendary cards.
My favourite legendary card is definitely Venka the Vile, it's Neutral with charge with only 7 mana it's easy to include in most teams.
Venka of the Vile is one of the strongest cards in the current meta. I'm very glad I bought a copy a few months ago. As you say, because the card belongs to the neutral Splinter, it gets used very often. You have to protect it a little in your lineup, but then it can reach its full offensive potential.
For me, it's Yodin Zaku! I remember my early days in Splinterlands and renting Yodin was a big deal! Just spam Yodin and some Opportunity/Sneak monsters. Worked well with Snipe too!
I remember that time too. Not only Yodin Zaku was rented back then, but also other legendary Archons such as Byzantine Kitty or Scared Llama Mage. Without one of these Archons, it was very difficult to climb the ratings. What I particularly liked about Yodin Zaku was the artwork and the Blast ability. In my opinion, Yodin Zaku is also one of the few Archons who managed to play a really good strategy with ranged attackers.
My Answer to the last Question:
It was quite difficult for me to make a decision because there are so many great legendary cards. And new ones are constantly being added. My favorites include Djinn Oshannus, as already mentioned, and Fina Voxom, which I finally own at level two.
However, I chose Kulu Mastermind as my absolute favorite legendary card, and there are several reasons for that. First, I received the card as a gold foil back then, and it is still my only gold foil legendary card to this day. In addition, when Chaos Legion was still in Modern, I played it very often, frequently together with Deeplurker, and the two of them destroyed the opponent's lineup with the Opportunity ability. It was one of the first cards with the Weapons Training ability, which opened up a number of possibilities for using it. It's just a great card, and I like to think back to the time when I played it whenever I could.

I have been waiting for a true Free2Play method for Splinterlands. I think this is 5 years overdue honestly. I love it though and am all for it!
Now that the game has the ability for someone with no crypto wallets or funds, can start to play the "full" game and earn their way up is a game changer. I am really excited to see what the prices of the Foundation cards are going to be in a years time.
Wow thank you very much!
Love the new mode. I think it's nice and simple for new players. Not keen on the name but nevermind, that's already been covered enough. I am finding it very hard, I'm not used to so few abilities or maybe I'm just not very good. I think a lot of the top players are hammering it at the moment which makes it harder. Hopefully it won't be too challenging for new players
I enjoy the new Frontier mode. The cards are more basic and weaker but it's still a fresh format which is interesting to play even for veterans. Obviously it's probably more interesting for new players as it gives them an entry point for free.
Really enjoying it, gives me an option to discuss with some web2 gamers and get them to take a look which has been difficult in the past, hoping that t he campaign gets expanded soon to explain cars upgrading and the transition to web3 if people want to
I like Frontiers, I play it a lot. It's very slow moving, as it's a totally new realm of possibilities, combinations - and Mana Cost. I mean, those cards are expensive, which is great as it binds them more to Frontier, though some can even be used in Modern (the water summoner for example). There is no OP-Splinter, at least I haven't encountered one, as each has their way of making a dent, depending on rulesets. So, overall, I think it's a great addition to the game, allowing free-to-play and get a good idea of the thrills of Splinterlands without having to spend first. I hope it's going to have a good conversion rate into Spellbook-Purchases.
Congratulations @thejedo! Just what you were looking for...
Thanks buddy!
I have not had a chance to check it out yet so don't include me in raffle, just supporting with a comment ^.^

I think the new mode is awesome because it introduces an even playing field for everyone, only frontier cards.
This way new players can experience the game in total (with different cards but that's not a problem)
They can have fun, learn, earn and grow their deck and climb the ranks, in time they will understand what a battle mage is all about and some will want to continue with modern play.
I think frontier mode is a great addition to splinterlands. It being truly free to play, with the academy/campaign introducing someone to the mechanics and new cards it's a fantastic addition that I think will make onboarding people much easier, both from web2 and within web3 communities.
The new game mode is really nice and a good addition to the game

I haven't played Frontier mode yet as I have yet to start accumulating the cards I need to play with.
I need to do it soon, though! This format seems like a lot of fun!
This is probably one of the best ways to invite friends and potential gamers into experiencing this really awesome game!
I really like the concept and I think it's a great addition to the game. Unfortunately I wasn't able to play it a lot so far, so I'm still sitting in bronze and the battles start to become kind of boring. With only a small amount of cards and abilities playable, it feels like the same teams are played over and over and I'm getting quite a few draws. I kind of expect that to get better with people growing their collections, though.
