Splinterlands Art Contest 373 - Silvershield Paladin Helmet Keychain Handmade [ENG-ESP]

Hello friends, good evening! I extend my warmest greetings to this wonderful community, where so many artisans showcase their incredible skills. This time, I want to share my entry for Splinterlands contest #373, and I've designed a piece that I'm sure many of you will love. I've made a keychain using soda cans as my main materials. I've been working a lot with this material lately, as I've managed to recycle many cans, so I have many projects in mind, and participating in Splinterlands is one of them. The keychain I made is of the helmet of the character known as Silvershield Paladin, a very brave knight in medieval armor with a striking helmet. Taking advantage of the unpainted, bare metal inside the can, I created this keychain in a very creative way. I'll share the process below, so let's get started!

Hola amigos, buenas noches, extiendo todo mi saludo a esta maravillosa comunidad, donde tantos artesanos muestran sus increíbles habilidades. En esta oportunidad quiero compartir nuevamente mi participación en el concurso 373 de Splinterlands así que he planeado una pieza que seguro a muchos les va a encantar. He realizado un llavero utilizando como materiales principales latas de soda, últimamente he trabajado mucho con este material ya que he conseguido reciclar muchas latas por lo que tengo muchos proyectos en mente y participar en Splinterlands es uno de ellos. El llavero que he realizado es del casco del personaje conocido como Silvershield Paladin, un caballero con armadura medieval, muy valiente el cual tiene un casco muy llamativo. Aprovechando el lado interior de la lata que no está pintado sino que se ve de metal, he realizado este llavero de manera muy creativa, les comparto a continuación como ha sido el proceso, comencemos!

PROCESS

To make a helmet, you only need a basic understanding of geometry. Often, I combine different templates, depending on the shape I want to create. Medieval helmets are very elaborate, and even if the model is based on a drawing from a map, it still requires a certain level of detail, so I work in sections. I start by drawing the top of the head and then the bottom. The combination of these two parts gives us the basic shape of the helmet, to which the rest of the details are then added.

Para hacer un casco solo se necesita tener nociones básicas de geometría, muchas veces lo que hago es mezclar diferentes plantillas todo dependiente de la forma que quiera hacer. Los cascos medievales son muy elaborados y aunque el modelo sea de un dibujo que está en una carta, de igual forma tiene un nivel de elaboración, así que lo hago por divisiones. Comienzo en primer lugar dibujando lo que sería la parte superior de la cabeza y luego la parte inferior, de la suma de estas dos partes podemos obtener la forma del casco al cual luego se le irán agregando el resto de los detalles.

After drawing the templates I'll use for the helmet's base, I cut them out and glue them with school glue onto a sheet of aluminum, which used to be a can that I cut up and turned into a sheet. Then, using scissors, I gradually cut out the complete shape. It's important to cut carefully because aluminum is easy to cut, and using scissors can damage the aluminum with a bad cut.

Luego de haber dibujado las plantillas que usaré para la base del casco lo que hago es cortarlas y pegarlas con pegamento escolar encima de una lámina de aluminio, la cual antes era una lata, solo que la corté y la convertí en una hoja. Después de eso con una tijera voy cortando poco a poco hasta obtener la forma completa. Importante es cortar con cuidado ya que el aluminio es fácil de cortar, por los que al usar la tijera se puede dañar el aluminio haciendo un mal corte.

Now, the next step is to apply contact adhesive. Apply the adhesive to each of the triangular tabs, and also to the inside of the helmet. Let the adhesive dry for a few minutes, then join each point until it's firmly attached. To ensure this, I use tweezers, which provide better support and allow the adhesive to set.

Ahora en el siguiente paso toca poner pegamento de contacto, el sitio donde se debe poner el pegamento es en cada una de las pestañas que estan recortadas en forma de triángulo. Y tambien en la parte interior del casco. Dejamos secar la pega por unos minutos y luego vamos uniendo cada punto hasta que quede bien fijado, para asegurar esto utilizo una pinza con la cual se sostiene mejor y actúa el pegamento.

Next, I begin shaping the lower part of the helmet. To do this, I cut out the template, place it on top of the can, and cut it out with scissors. After cutting it completely, I draw four small squares on the front. I then open each of these squares using a small blade. These squares form the lower part of the helmet, and I suspect they are for breathing.

Seguidamente comienzo a moldear la parte inferior del casco, para eso también corto la plantilla para luego ponerla encima de la lata y asi cortarla con la tijera. Luego de que la he cortado por completo, en la parte frontal dibujo unos pequeños cuadros, son cuatro en total, cada uno de estos cuadros los comienzo a abrir utilizando una pequeña cuchilla. Estos cuadros pertenecen a la parte inferior del casco e intuyo que es para poder respirar.

After making the holes, the next step is to join both pieces. To do this, apply glue to the edges, let it dry for a few minutes, and then join them with pliers. As you can see, this is what I call the base of the helmet. From here on out, it's just a matter of adding each of the details until it's finished.

Luego de hacer los agujeros el siguiente paso es unir ambas piezas, para hacerlo hay que poner pegamento por los bordes, dejar secar unos cuantos minutos y luego unirlos con las pinzas. Como pueden ver así queda lo que yo llamo la base del casco, de aquí en adelante solo qued aponer cada uno de los detalles hasta finalizar.

An important point is making the eye part; here I didn't want to make holes so that the inside of the helmet wouldn't be visible, instead I opted to make two aluminum frames, glue them to the helmet and then paint them black.

Un punto importante es hacer la parte de los ojos, aquí no quise hacer agujeros para quen no se viera el interior del casco, en lugar de eso opté por hacer dos cuadros de aluminios, pegarlos en el casco y luego pintarlos de color negro.

Next, I begin sketching a wing-shaped piece on the paper. This piece goes on each side of the helmet and is what makes it look very different from other helmets. They remind me of those used by the Teutonic Knights, according to some illustrations. I make two pieces of each design, which I will then glue to the sides of the helmet. Finally, I attach the chain with a ring for the keyring.

Seguidamente sobre el papel comienzo a dibujar una pieza con forma de ala, esta pieza va en cada lado del casco y s lo que lo hace lucir muy diferente de otros cascos, me recuerdan a los que utilizaban los caballeros de la orden Teutónica, según algunas ilustraciones. Hago dos piezas de cada modelo que luego iré adhiriendo por los lados de casco utilizando pegamento. Para finalizar toca poner lo que sería la cadena con un aro para el llavero.

FINAL WORK

This helmet, although it only had a few pieces, wasn't easy to assemble, especially the top part. It gave me a bit of trouble; the aluminum was rather hard to mold, so it came apart twice, though it was secure on the third try. The rest of the pieces were firmly attached thanks to the glue and the tweezers I always use to help with the process. What do you think of the result? Once again, using the front of the can really helps achieve that silvery tone for the armor—it's a bonus I always take advantage of. Este casco aunque constaba de pocas piezas no fue fácil de armar, especialmente la parte superior, me dió un poco de problemas, el aluminio era algo duro de moldear por lo que dos veces se despegó, aunque a la tercera si quedó bien fijado. Del resto cada pieza quedó bien fija gracias al pegamento y a la pinza que siempre uso para ayudar en el proceso.¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? una vez más utilizar el anverso de la lata ayuda mucho a conseguir ese tono plateado de las armaduras, es un plus que siempre aprovecho. Por ahora me despido, no sin antes agradecer el apoyo recibido, ya que mi publicación del concurso anterior quedó seleccionada entre los 10 lugares elegidos, algo que me anima a seguir adelante, creando y compartiendo.
