Splinterlands Art Contest 369 - Pirate Captain's Pistol Wood Carved Keychain [ENG-ESP]

Hello, dear Jewelry friends, and also to all the artist and artisan friends participating in the Splinterlands contest. This week we're in contest 369, and I'm here to participate with a creation using different materials. This week, I decided to participate by making a keychain, taking one of the weapons from the Pirate Captain card: a sword and a pistol. This pistol has an 18th-century design, which I've always loved. The keychain is made with carved wood and aluminum pieces. Here, I'll briefly explain how I made it and how I used each of the materials.

Hola queridos amigos de Jewelry y también a todos los amigos artistas y artesanos que participan en el concurso de Splinterlands, esta semana ya estamos en el concurso 369 y estoy aquí para participar con una creación con diferentes materiales. Para esta semana he decidido participar realizando un llavero, tomando una de las armas de la carta Pirate Captain, quien tiene una espada y una pistola, esta pistola tiene un diseño del siglo XVIII las cuales siempre me han gustado mucho. El llavero está hecho con madera tallada y piezas de aluminio, aquí te explicaré brevemente como lo hice y de qué forma utilicé cada uno de los materiales.

As is my custom when I do this work, I find a piece of wood that matches the idea I have in mind. I looked for images of old pistols and saw that many had or were made of reddish wood, so I used a piece of wood with this color. After cutting about 3 centimeters and cleaning all its sides, I used a pencil to begin to shape the pistol, especially the grip, to a size that would be clearly visible when the keychain was cut.

Como es costumbre en mi cuando realizo este trabajo es buscar una pieza de madera acorde para la idea que tengo en mente, busqué imágenes de pistolas antiguas y vi que muchas tenían o estaban hechas de madera rojiza, así que utilicé una pieza de madera con este color. Luego de cortar de unos 3 centímetros, y limpiar todos sus lados, con un lápiz comencé a hacer la forma de la pistola, especialmente de la empuñadura, de un tamaño que cuando lo corte el llavero pueda apreciarse bien.

It wasn't easy carving this figure; it was too small to withstand the cuts. I realized when I made the first cuts that the wood was fragile. Faced with this situation, I made the cuts smaller, which required more time and more concentration.

No fue fácil tallar esta figura, era muy pequeña para resistir los cortes, me di cuenta cuando hice los primeros cortes que la madera era frágil. ante esta situación lo que hice fue hacer los cortes más pequeños, esto me llevó a tomarme más tiempo del necesario y más concentración.

Once I'd completed this step, I began cutting and carving the top of the pistol figure. If you'll notice anything, it's that I didn't use the gouges for the carving; my goal was to complete the figure quickly, so I didn't think it was necessary. So far, everything has gone very well; all that's left is to sand and polish the piece to give it the desired shape.

Superado este punto comencé a cortar y a tallar por la parte superior de la figura de la pistola. Si algo pueden notar es que no utilicé las gubias para hacer el tallado, mi objetivo era poder hacer rapido la figura por lo que no creí necesario utilizarlas. Hasta aquí todo salio muy bien, solo falta lijar y pulir la pieza para darle la forma deseada.

As I said before, I started sanding the piece to remove impurities and give it a more uniform appearance, and it also became more polished. On the top side, I have to make a small cut, with a small path to the middle. I use the flat-tipped knife to mark the entire area where I'll extract the wood with another type of knife.

Como dije antes me puse a lijar la pieza para quitarle las impurezas y darle una apariencia más uniforme, a parte de que la pieza quedó más pulida. En la aprte superior tengo que hacer un pequeño corte, con un pequeño camino hasta la mitad, utilizo la cuchilla de punta plana para marcar todo el sitio donde voy a extraer la madera con otra clase de cuchilla.

After marking the spot I mentioned earlier, I began using the circular-tipped knife to extract the wood from that small space. It's so small that I had to be very, very gentle so the wood wouldn't crack. Once I made the cut, I began cleaning up the area with sandpaper I cut from a larger piece.

Luego de haber marcado el sitio que mencioné antes, comence a utilicar la cuchilla con la punta circular para poder extraer la madera de ese pqueño lugar, es tan pequeño que debí hacerlo muy muy suave para que la mader ano se agrietara. Una vez que hice el corte, con una lija que corté de un pedazo más grande comencé a limpiar el corte.

Once I'm finished, I start working with the next material, which is the aluminum, which I got from a soda can, so we're talking about a mixed-material piece. With the aluminum, I plan to make the metal plates that surround the gun, for example the main plate, which contains the trigger and the detonator. Then I add aluminum strips on the top and bottom, and also around the grip. Seeing how it was turning out, I was very excited.

Una vez que he terminado comienzo a trabajar con el siguiente material, que es el aluminio, el cual saqué de una lata de soda, por lo que estamos hablando de una peiza de materiales mixtos. Con el aluminio pienso hacer las placas de metal que tiene la pistola alrededor, por ejemplo la placa principal, que contiene el catillo y el detonador. Luego voy poniendo tiras de aluminio en la parte superior y en la parte inferior y así también alrededor de la empuñadora. al ver como iba quedando me emocioné mucho.

I also added an aluminum plate to the bottom of the pistol grip to seal that area. The cut I made at the top at the beginning was to accommodate the pistol barrel tubes, which, as you can see, are made up of two tubes, each of which I glue in place. Another detail was making the detonator, since these weapons were loaded with gunpowder and had a fuse that allowed them to operate. Finally, to hold both barrels together, I added two aluminum rings to better join them.

La parte inferior de la culata e la pistola también le puse una placa de aluminio para sellar esa zona. El corte que hice en la parte superior al principo era para poner los tubos del cañon de la pistola, que como pueden ver está compuesto por dos tubos, los cuales voy colocando cada uno con pegamento. Otro detalle fue hacer el detonador, ya que estos armamentos se cargaban con pólvora y tenían una mecha que permitían su accionar. Por último para sujetar ambos cañones puse dos anillos de aliminio para unirlos mejor.

As a final touch, I added the keychain chain, which I attached from the stock; it seemed like the most suitable place. And that's how this Pirate Captain pistol was finished. What do you think of the result? The piece is exactly what I wanted, and it also works well to put on a necklace and show it off. Como último detalle agregué la cadena para el llavero, lo puse desde la culata, me pareció el lugar más adecuado. Y así quedó finalizado esta pistola de Pirate Captain, ¿Qué les parece a ustedes el resultado? El tamaño que tiene la pieza es justo el que deseaba, y también funciona para ponerlo en un collar y lucirlo. Realmente me divertí mucho haciendo esta pieza, disfruto mucho los pequeños detalles.
