Splinterlands Art Contest 360 - Grifzi's Knives Wood Carved Necklace [ENG-ESP]

Hello dear Jewelry friends, I hope you are all doing very well. First of all, I want to thank this beautiful community for its support, which always motivates me to be better. I also want to thank all my colleagues for their comments, expressing their kind words about my work. With this feeling of gratitude, I want to share with you my entry to the Splinterlands Art Contest 360. This time, I used one of Grifzi's weapons, a goblin-like creature with very sharp knives in each of his hands, ready for battle. I made a small piece carved from pine wood, which I carefully shaped due to its complicated dimensions, but in the end, I was able to achieve my goal. That's why, below, I share with you the step-by-step process of how I made this beautiful piece. Let's begin!

Hola queridos amigos de Jewelry, espero que se encuentren muy muy bien. Quiero agradecer en primer lugar el apoyo que siempre recibo de esta hermosa comunidad, que siempre me motiva a ser mejor, y también a todos los compañeros con sus comentarios donde expresan sus buenas palabras a mis trabajos. Con este sentimiento de agradecimiento es que deseo compartir con ustedes mi entrada al concurso 360 de Splinterlands Art Contest, en esta oportunidad he utilizado una de las armas de Grifzi, un ser con apariencia de duende, que en cada una de sus manos tienes cuchillos muy afilados listos para la batalla. Hice una pequeña pieza tallada en madera de pino, la cual con mucho cuidado fui dando forma por lo complicado de sus dimensiones, pero al final pude lograr mi objetivo. Es por eso que, a continuación compartir con ustedes el proceso paso a paso de como hice esta linda pieza. Comencemos!

PROCESS

I cut a piece of wood measuring 3.5 centimeters on both sides and only 4 millimeters thick, strong enough to withstand the cut and not be damaged in the process. On one side, I make a drawing of the knife, transferring it to fill most of the wood and giving it a noticeable size; the piece would be 5 centimeters. To do this work, I bought replacement knife blades because the ones I had were already quite dull.

Corté un trozo de madera que mide 3,5 centímetros por ambos lados y que solo tiene 4 milímetros de grosor, lo suficiente fuerte para resistir el corte y que no se dañe en el proceso. Encima de una de sus caras hago el dibujo del cuchillo, lo dibujo de forma transfersal para ocupar la mayor parte de la madera y que tenga un tamaño apreciable, la pieza quedaría de 5 centímetros. Para hacer este trabajo compré repuestos para hojas de navajas porque las que tenía ya habían perdido mucho el filo.

When I started cutting, I thought it would be a good idea to cut away the larger pieces of wood that weren't part of the lines to save time and effort, so I used a small saw to cut them out. Once I removed the saw, I began carving the wood at the height of the knife handle, gradually until I had a bow-like shape. After that, I switched to the small wood carving blades I have to make the knife handle.

Cuando comencé a cortar, pensé que para ahorrar tiempo y esfuerzo era mejor idea cortar las partes más grandes de madera que no formaban parte de los trazos, y para cortarlas utilicé una pequeña cierra. Así que una vez quitada comencé a tallar la madera a la altura del mango del cuchillo, poco a poco hasta dejar la forma parecida a un arco. Después de eso cambién a las cuchillas pequeñas que tengo para tallar madera y de esa forma hacer el mango del cuchillo.

Using the triangular-tipped knife, I begin scoring the line by sinking the tip into the wood. Then I cut horizontally, carving this part of the handle. Once the wood is easier to cut, I switch back to the large knife and finish the job. You can see how the curve of the knife's handle looks.

Con la cuchilla de punta triangular comencé a marcvar el trazo hundiendo la punta en la madera, luego voy cortando de forma horizontal y así voy tallando esta parte del mango. Una vez que la madera ha quedado más facil de cortar, cambio de nuevo a la navaja grande y ahí termino el trabajo, pueden observar como queda la curva del mango del cuchillo.

Now it's time to carve the wood to shape the knife blade. Here, I gradually remove the wood until I get close to the edge of the line, but not completely, just an approximation. From this point, the carving becomes more complicated because the loss of density makes the piece a little weaker, so the cuts should be made with gentle caresses.

Ahora llegó el turno de tallar la madera para darle forma a la hoja del cuchillo, aquí voy retirando la madera poco a poco hasta acercarme al límite del trazo pero no por completo, sino una aproximación. Desde este punto el tallado se vuelve más complicado porque al perder densidad la pieza se va haciendoun poco más débil, por lo que los cortes deben hacerse como suaves caricias.

Grifzi's knife isn't just a simple knife; it has even smaller details. The handle has protuberances toward the tip of the blade. So, just like I drew them before, I'm giving them shape, so the knife will have a very striking relief. You can see how I'm gradually carving this part, following the outline of the drawing.

El cuchillo de Grifzi no e sun simple cuchillo, sino que tiene algunos detalles, que són aun mas pequeños, y es que del mando salen unas protuberancias hacia la punta de la hoja. Así que como las había dibujando antes les voy dando forma, así el cuchillo tendra un relieve muy llamativo. Pueden observar como poco a poco voy tallando esa parte siguiendo el rastro del dibujo.

An important step up to this point is to create the edge of the knife blade. How do I do this? Simply by making a 45-degree cut at the ends of the wood. After this, I begin sanding and polishing the entire piece with very soft sandpaper. This way, the surface is smooth and free of imperfections, ready for a coat of varnish, sanding again, and a final coat of varnish. Once the piece has completely dried, I begin painting the edges that don't belong on the knife blade with a light green marker. This way, I create a new contrast. As an additional detail and to give it a traditional look, I added some natural-colored wooden spheres and others in black, making it look like an indigenous piece of jewelry.

Algo importante hasta este punto es hacer el filo de la hojilla para la navaja, y como hago esto? simplemente haciendo un corte de 45 grados en los extremos de la madera. Dspués de esto comienzo a lijar y a pulir toda la pieza con una lija muy suave, así la superficie queda lisa y sin imperfecciones, lista para darle un baño de barniz, lijar nuevamente y realizar un último baño de barniz. Una vez que ha secado completamente la pieza comienzo a pintar con un marcador de color verde claro los brodes que no pertencen a la hoja del cuchillo, de esta forma obtendría un nuevo contraste. Como un detalle adicional y darle un aspecto tradicional agregué unas esferas de madera de color natura y otras de color negro, así luciría como una joya indígena.
