Splinterlands Art Contest 344 - Stonesplitter Orc Fan Art Wood Carved Axe Keychain [ENG-ESP]

Hello friends, I hope you are all doing well. This time I'm back in the weekly Splinterlands contest to participate with another handmade piece. I've chosen the Stonesplitter Orc character, who wields a powerful axe with a very long handle. I liked the design, so I made a mini wooden sculpture. It serves two purposes: it can be used as a keychain, but it can also be used as a pendant. The only thing I would change is the necklace. I carved this piece from reddish wood. I did it very carefully, as the wood I chose was a little cracked, so I had to work with a lot of concentration to avoid damaging the piece. I'm sharing a brief step-by-step guide below so you can see how I made it.

Hola amigos, espero que se encuentren todos muy bien, en esta oportunidad regreso al concurso semanal de Splinterlands para participar con aun pieza realizada a mano. He escogido al personaje de Stonesplitter Orc el cual tiene una poderosa hacha con un mango muy largo, me gustó ese diseño así que he realizado una mini escultura tallada en madera, la cual la he hecho para dos propósitos, se puede utilizar tanto como un llavero pero también se puede usar como un dije, solo cambiaría el collar. Esta pieza la he tallado en madera de color rojizo, y la hice con mucho cuidado ya que la madera que elegí estaba un poco agrietada así que tuve que trabajarla con mucha concentración y así no se dañara la pieza. comparto con ustedes a continuación el paso a paso breve para que puedan observar como la hice.

I found a large piece of wood, which I had to cut down to make a piece that was sturdy but not too big. I took the wood to a carpenter's shop and cut a 5-millimeter-thick piece. It seemed like the best fit. I only cut it 6 centimeters long. As I said before, I wanted to make a piece that would serve a dual purpose: use it as a keychain or as a charm.

Encontré un gran trozo de madera, el cual tuve que reducirlo para poder hacer una pieza que tuviera buena dureza pero que no quedara tan grande. Lleve la madera para un carpintería y corté una pieza de 5 milímetros de espesor, me pareció lo mas adecuado, de largo solo la corté de 6 centímetros, como dije antes quería hacer una pieza que tuviera doble propósito, usar como llavero o como un dije.

To summarize the wood carving, I used a saw to cut out the blank spaces in the wood that weren't part of the axe design. This makes it easier to carve the handle and blade.

Para resumir un poco el tallado de la madera, utilicé una sierra para cortar aquellos espacios en blanco en la madera que no son parte del trazo del dibujo del hacha. De esta manera es más fácil tallar el mando y la hoja del hacha.

Now the carving of the piece begins. I start the process with the blades of the cutter. I first give it a curved shape on the side with the sharp edge, and then I'll shape the edges closest to the handle. Here I use the smallest blades, which are specifically designed for making these types of smaller, more precise cuts.

Ahora comienza el tallado de la pieza, el inicio del proceso lo hago por las hojas del hecha, el cual en primer lugar le daré foirma curva por el lado donde tiene el filo y luego será el turno de los bordes que estan cerca del mano. Aquí utilizo las cuchillas más pequeñas que son especiales para hacer este tipo de cortes más pequeños y precisos.

You can see how little by little the front edge of the axe is becoming curved, and especially the edges where I use the blade with the rounded tip, the wood is coming out easily and the shape I had drawn in pencil is gradually emerging.

Como pueden ver como poco a poco la hoja frontal del hacha va quedando curva, y especialmente los bordes donde utilizo la cuchilla con la punta redondeada la madera va saliendo con facilidad y la forma que había dibujado con lápiz poco a poco va saliendo.

I also shape the hook-shaped back blade. Not only the edges, but also the interior. Axes have a very specific shape, depending largely on the strength of the user. The blade is thick in one part, starting from where the edge begins.

Así también a la hoja trasera que está hecha en forma de gancho le voy dando forma. No solamente en los bordes, hacia el interior también voy tallando porque las hachas tienen una forma muy particular ya que depende mucho de la fuerza de quien la usa para cortar, de manera que en una parte la hoja es gruesa ya desde donde comienza el filo.

Then I edged both blades, making them look very realistic by using a box cutter to cut the sharp points. I also shaped the handle into a circular shape, cutting the edges and then rounding them with sandpaper. I then cleaned and polished the entire piece before varnishing it, and that's how it was finished.

Luego Hice el filo a ambas hoja, lo hice que quedar amuy realista, cortando con el cúter las puntas bien afiladas. También le di forma al mango de manera circular cortando los bordes y nluego redondeando con una lija, y así limpié y pulí toda la peiza para darle luego un baño de barniz y así quedó finalizado.

What did you think of the result? The choice of wood was the best; the varnish definitely gives a beautifying effect and also protects the wood. I really liked the result. Qué les ha parecido el resultado? La elección de la madera fue la mejor, sin duda que el barniz da un efecto embellecedor y ademas de que protege la madera. Me gustó mucho el resultado, como mencioné antes, el mango lo hice más corto que en el diseño original, ya que lo hice para un llavero y también un dije.
