The Importance of Clearing and Pruning

Splendid afternoon to you all.

Still in the harmattan season, everything is looking so dry. As a farmer I'm looking for ways to maximize the season to get good yield and ensure a healthy crop. So this afternoon while I was just thinking of what to do in order to keep my day productive, the thought of clearing the plantain farm set in. As a young farmer, I have always been looking for ways to make my farming routine more unique, clearing and pruning is part of the essential practice a farm should do. So today was just one of the day I decided to embark on the journey of clearing the plantain farm, this far is not far from my house it's within the compound so it was just easy for me, the tools I used were rake, knife. As someone who loves eating plantain I had to do it and the results has been amazing.

Why Clearing and Pruning Matter

Air Circulation
One of the basic necessity why you should clear off dry leaves and prune your plantain is to improve air circulation in the plantain plantation, as we all know that for plants to grow and bear good fruit they really need space and ventilation and plantain is not exception to this, it requires enough airflow and also the dry abs and decay leaves needs to be taken off to help the plant to receive much air and reduce accumulating of moisture which can cause fungi disease and promote overall good and healthy plant.

Sunlight Penetration
Sunlight which is the ultimate source of energy is needed, another benefit of clearing up dry, decay leaves from plantain is that it's gives room for sunlight penetration for photosynthesis to take place. Plant needs to manufacture their food for growth and development.

Pest and Disease Management
Reasons why some plant easily get infected by disease is because they are not well taken care of, when you have decay plant matters it forms a breeding space for pest and pathogens, but when the farm is regularly cleared it's will go a long way of reducing the chances of pest.

These are just few reasons among many others why you should clear and prune your plants.
